Muffler options for K4 CB750
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:36:23 PM »
Recently purchased a '74 CB750  :D .  It came with a ridiculously loud 4 into 1 megaphone exhaust setup - nothing inside the "muffler" portion at all, just a giant 4 inch hole that made my head ache after a 15 minute ride back.  I have the headers removed for paint (really bad pitting on the chrome), and am having trouble finding a decent replacement for the muffler.  There's not much on ebay either, and some of these single mufflers are running $150 plus on there  :-\ .  Any suggestions?  Pics up soon - you'll all instantly fall in love with the flame job on the tank  right now ;)

Also...  Previous owner installed filter pods and said the carbs were rejetted - would a muffler require me to change back?

First off, welcome. Not sure what kind of system you have but have you thought about replacing the baffle that is missing?  (cheapest option, you could even make one)
You can spend good money on a system, cheapest is a Mac, but not a lot of us like them.
If you can find a used vintage Kerker, buy it!
Or have you seen Carpy's? (search on Google). And there is a guy in Cali that was making repro Yoshis.

Hey Steve-o, pretty sure the headers are a stock set from a 750F.  Only pic I've got right now is a cell phone pic from the morning I picked it up (of course of the wrong side), but below it is a stock photo of what looks like the same muffler (mine is gutted).  I've looked at supertrapp / kerker mufflers and am trying to make sure I can get something dimensionally correct - the mufflers on Carpy's site for instance are like 10" long and wouldn't look right.  Maybe now I'll just baffle what I've got.  The baffle I can find is $60 alone on ebay.  What is the DIY alternative?

my 76 750f runs a THRUSH 28 inch glasspack when the kerker is not on it.  slides right on the stock F header, all i had to do was have a rear mount tab welded on, then had it painted black.
