Cheap carb kits?
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:06:44 PM »
So I've cleaned and rebuilt all four of my k3 carbs, set the floats and now I've got issues.. the two outer carbs are pi$$ing gas out of the overflow tubes. At first I thought I was doing something wrong with the floats and I messed with them over and over again adjusting the height lower and lower until the bowls wouldn't even fill... now I'm pretty sure two of the new needle and seats I installed don't make a seal and the gas is bypassing them.. anyone else run into an issue like this? my next step is to try and swap the needle and seats from the inner to outer and see if the problem continues. I am frustrated to the point where I want to give up.  anyone know if anything else could cause this?

Do your new needles have a rubber tip or are they solid. If not rubber you might try lapping with some fine compound. I have never done this but read about it here on another post. I think he chuck the needle in a drill motor and went very slow. By the way what brand name are they?
Maybe someone who has done it can add to this. Are you 100% sure there is no trash?

Look closely at the over flow tubes in the bowls.  They sometime get a hairline split (who knows why) causing them to leak continuously.

heres the link to the kits I got:  http://www.ebay.ca/itm/FOUR-Honda-CB750-CB-750-K1-K6-Carb-Rebuild-Kits-Kit-/160700738566?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item256a82ac06 the needle tips are solid and there'll be no chance of chucking the needles as there just isn't enough of them extended above the seat.  I'll have to check for the cracks.  when I went for a ride whilst gas was pouring out the overflows it was also running rich and got gas in the oil

+1 here.  Thanks for posting this I just got my carb woos solved after months of frustration!  The overflow tube was leaking.  Not sure if it is a hairline crack or not, but I now know 2 of my carbs have bad float bowls.  I'd wake up in the morning and the 2 inner ones would be drained with a nice puddle of gas all over my bike lift and engine. I am sure I could repair, but will probably just switch out for 2 good ones.  To test I started rolling what little gas was left and saw the drip.  Put another shot of gas and drip, drip, drip.

So lone*X and Pecantree you guys just saved me from having to buy a carb kit!  So excited happy times!

Well I bought 2 new needles and seats from Honda and put them in.  gas is still bypassing somehow. float levels are good and have tried swapping between working ones in and same result... two outer carbs just keep filling. I am lost :(
