fml carb help pleaseeeeeee lots of pics!!!
« on: March 23, 2012, 03:20:30 PM »
ok i took my carbs off and totally raped my green paint but it still looks good when its back on

anyways i need help adjusting my carbs correctly

from the shop manual i got this much so far

when the throttle is fully open there is supposed to be a 1mm lip showing.

but at that level the open throttle screw is practically screwed in all the way

this is what it looks like closed. i hope there is supposed to be a gap like that

--------------------------------------

next is the butterfly flap things

i leveled all of them and they should be good. this is an open pic

closed pic

-----------------------------------

now this is another problem when the throttle is completely closed the idle screw, screwed in all the way doesn't even touch the closed carbs

===================================

so ya i have no idea what im doing

thanks for the help

I love your descriptions.  ;D
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

1. Bench sync them. Take a 1/8" drill bit and stick it between the slide and carb body on the side that has the higher part of the slide. Adjust the slide height using the screw with the lock nut attached.
2. Put the carbs back on the bike.
3. Sync with with a carb sync tool. One of the carbs should be adjusted all the way down from when you bench synced them. That's the "master carb." Sync the rest of the carbs to that one's level.

There's some good info in this thread: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=98188.0

also what is this supposed to be adjusted to? every time it moves it messes up that 1/8 drill bit bench sync

in the manual there is supposed to be a couple millimeter gap but no matter what it touches in every position

+1 for pissed at the Kawi color... paint it Honda red you'll be good

Here's the method i'd follow...
First, turn your idle set screw in so it touches the lever, then turn it in 1/2 turn.
this will allow the slides full range of motion AFTER your bench sync.
take the tops caps off all of your carbs so you can adjust all your slides to the 1/8" bit, and complete your bench sync.
dont worry about your throttle cable mechanism, its meant to move the slides.  just get them bench sync'd, repainted red, reinstalled, and then properly vacuum sync'd.  ;D

Done.

That pin limits the throttle travel when open all the way.

back the idle stopper screw out,you have it wound too far in, so its end is away from the stopper flush with the threads its in,then adjust those little screws that you adjust to sync so the slides go down, have the return spring hooked up,as they drop down thats when you insert your drill bit,i like to watch through them as the light goes out one by one, then adjust the idle screw till you just see light break through,,this will run the bike and they must then be vacuum synced,if you start the bike with the carbs like you have then now itll do a million revs, you got the choke plates done ok,these are closed and choke off the air for rich cold starting.

agh damn it the carbs are on the bike.

i think everything was good though when i had the bike going all the carbs where at 10psi idk it was at the 10 mark on the gauges and all of them where very close to each other.

i will have to resurrect this thread probably from the dead because my Tach is broken on the bike. so when i rebuild or buy another one then i can propery sync these bad boys because from what i understand the bike has to be idling around 1500-2000 rpm.

A little off topic, but what kind of paint did you use on the carb bodies?

hahahah its nothing special. all the paint on the bike other than the VHT engine paint is home depot.

i used the florescent green paint and after that shot it with some automotive clear. (not the expensive 2 parts stuff just the cheap stuff)

i dont intend any of my paint on the bike to be professional. i already chipped the tell out of the carbs putting them in and out of the bike. i just simply go back with a nice paint brush and squirt the spray paint on a piece a cardboard and go picasso on it

you can still do it,wind the adjusters in the direction that lowers the slide, watch the lifting lever go down and as it stops,,stop winding,do that on all the carbs, then you can start the bike, bring the idle screw up and sync them properly,a smooth idle speed is all you need, you dont really need a tacho, you will have to wind the idle screw down maybe as you go as the rpm may increase.
