dyna coils
« on: March 26, 2012, 06:47:57 PM »
have 2 new dyna coils mounted in my bike and the first coil the one that the power runs to is working fine(it also supplies the power to the second coil) Now my problem...With the hot  wire from the first coil not fastened to the  second coil it registers 14 volts which is correct...with it connected to the second coil which is for the 2-3 cylinders the voltage drops to 2volts...Which means that the 2-3 cyl are basicially not working...
Any idea's how to correct this problem...

The 12v wire to the second coil may be broken internally or very poor contact quality.......if you're still getting 14v at the first coil/terminal when testing 2volts at the second coil terminal, that's likely it....

Does your bike have points ?.... what impedance are these new Dyna coils ? ( Ohms ).
They may be under 1 ohm ( meant for a modern sportbike ). The first one may read 14v because the points are open and no circuit, the 2-3 coil may be in circuit ( points closed ) and pulling the voltage down to 2 volts due to 40 yr. old wiring, switches, fuseholders etc.....or it might be something else  :)
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,
