It was a great weekend with some great people and results.
I met up with Colin mid afternoon on Friday. There was a track day/open practice going on but the reason for geting there early was to get set up and get the bikes through tech inspection to save rushing Saturday morning. All the bikes went through with no problems, they were all well turned out but were to have differing problems in the next two days.
Colins mate Dave Martin was there with his CB500 four as was Frank Lemstra with a similar bike.
Franks traveling companion from Holland Gert Boon was there also with his 500cc short stroke Triton.
The first bad news of the weekend was that Dave (specweld) with his ultra quick 400 four could not make it due to a sudden work comitment. We did however meet on Sunday but he was unsure if he would make it so didn't have the bike ready to go. :(
The first to hit trouble was Dave Martin who found he had water in his fuel in practice.
Second to hit problems was Gert from Holland who threw it down the road in the first race on lap one smashing his streamlining, bars and a footpeg, he walked away anoyed but unhurt to any degree and was able to rebuild it for Sunday.
Next to run into problems was Frank, his motor was running well, perhaps to well as it ate a couple of pistons and caused an overnight rebuild.
While all this was going on Colin Stockers Stockdale pushed a period 1 Petty Manx Norton to the line to finish Second and then turned the tables in the second race to take the win. 8)
Sunday saw every one back on track but the only one running quick was Stockers who took the win with the Dutch Honda of Frank coming in second in the 500 class.
I had to come away before the second race on the Sunday as I had a 2 hour drive and I had things to do in readiness for work on Monday.
One of the best parts of the weekend was these guys other halves, what a fine groupe of ladies who seemed to be at one with their husbands racing 8) 8) 8)
Thanks for the hospitality guys, you ROCK. 8) 8) 8) 8)
And they all said Hi to Brian Bear, they were all down under with you in spirit. ;)

Thanks Sam, Col, Dave and Frank are all good racers and good blokes.
I hope they can manage another trip down for the PI Classic some time.

Cheers,
Brian

Glad you had a good day sam, i remember my last race at croft, some 40 years ago, we had raced our outfit there the previous season 3or4 times so knowing the cicuit quite well, set off on our first practice lap, flying down railway straight there used to be a left hand kink before going into a right hander, we always tried to flatten the kink out by going just over the grass with my backside skimming the floor, but during the winter they had put ridged edging concrete blocks all round the kink, not realising this untill the last moment the driver pulled away from the edge, and my backside got a good pounding on the blocks, i had a bruise from the top of my backside to the back of my knee, it lasted for about 10 weeks. in those days the chicane used to made out of railway sleepers, remember having a few hairy moments there as well, wonderfull days though.

Franks piston, we think the fuel he brought from Holland was #$%*e, so he put new pistons in and used some good old English fuel, and the bike was great !!!

We have very good fuel here in Holland Colin , you have to use Gulf Challenger, I will tell Frank at Assen.
