Yeah...I'm a newbie...
« on: June 04, 2006, 06:35:19 AM »
Just wanted to introduce myself to the group...no doubt I will be needing some of  everyones expertise.  Moniker is Wingpilot96...name is Steve.  Just recently aquired a 1978 CB750F SS that needs some TLC.  Fun story as to how it was aquired.  Was tooling home on my 82 750F SS..when another rider on an RC51 came along side me and we started talking.  He liked what I had done to the 82 and indicated that he had a 78 750F at his house.  Asked me if I wanted it.  My question was did it run and how much?  His response was "yep it runs and NOTHING....just pick it up!"  Needless to say, I took the offer.  I went to his house with my truck to pick it up, the bike did need work....but it is a project bike anyway.  Asked for help loading in the truck and the owner said...too much work.. there is a trailer next to it...take it too!!

So there we go free bike and trailer!

Holy Freekin' Crap!!!  :o  A FREE bike AND a FREE TRAILER too????  My next questions: is this guy goin through a divorce or something?  Did he have titles for these?  Or, They must be HOT or something....my experiences: if it sounds too good to be true it probably is.
Well anyway, hope you get the bike up and running like a top, that adds to the pleasure (even if it wasn't free).

That's when it pays to have a truck and a trailer hitch!  I used to have 2 old Ford F150's and my cars when I lived in the country, and a 2.5 car garage for the bikes.  I now live in the city where thankfully I have a single car garage big enough for my little civic and the 550F, but no room for anything else.

Nice find - good luck with the project - keep us posted.

Yeah.. I did try the lottery ticket thing...but that didn't work out.  Strange thing in GA is that if the bike is pre 1985, a title is not required..just bill of sale.  Of course if it is hot...it may be identified.  I'll just give it up.  He did say that he had too many project bike and the wife wanted him to get rid of the oldest.

For some news on the bike...I have cleaned up the calipers of front and rear...not too bad of shape.  Pulled the carbs and they were really clean.  reattached the carbs and added gas and it fired right up....didn't idle great...but it started.  Took off the tank..very clean inside...couple of dings...now filled with bondo...seat is in need of a really good repair...totally wasted.  My intent...(plans that is) is to make into a cafe style bike.  this may take some time...butwhat the hell...with two good running bikes..this is all playtime.

The valve covers on your other 750 are really goofy looking.....

If you have any questions about the 78" you know where I am. mine is about 2 weeks from completion.

You two should have pulled over to have that conversation. Riding while talking is very dangerous- especially when being offered a bike.

Nice break, You got a better deal on your supersport and it's better looking to boot.  But I've got to ask again, what is it with all the newbies (myself included) that are all starting to restore 77 and 78 supersports?  For being a very limited numbers bike, there suddenly a LOT of them on this site being worked by noobs.  Seems like everybody in the country that had a old supersport taking up space in their garage decided to get rid of them at the same time.

I dunno??   I can only speak for one newb -  my $100. 78 750SS sat outside for a year in my neighbors yard until he made me buy it. Your observation does seems correct to me. Greetings Pilot :)
