PD46A carb seals
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:46:59 AM »
Anyone know what these are and where to get them. I bought every available seal from honda but nothing that looks or works like these. There the big one for the slide linkage and the small one for the choke linkage. Thanks

What, the felt o-ring things? Unavailable.

Get yourself some 1/16" felt and a punch set (from Amazon) for leather and go to town. I actually bought some industrial felt from Amazon but in the end I didnt use it. I used some 100% wool felt my wife had for some project with the kids. I worked out pretty good.

Those carbs are a pain to rebuild!

Yeah its sucks i was being so thorough with my build and i completely overlooked these things. So cut out some felt and shove into the slotted area in place of the old #$%*?

I looked too, - no felt, so I bought o-rings.

They are not tight to the body, but I figured that as long as the air has to travel a "torturous path", it was good enough.

For the choke, I would expect a small amount of air leakage - only when the choke is on, otherwise, the pressure difference shouldn't be very great.  For the carb pivot, I wouldn't expect much pressure difference either.

Hi, have a look at my topic, I am rebuild a K7 and recently rebuilt the carbs they are PD41A's I replaced all of the throttle shaft & choke shaft seals with "o"rings.

I have listed the sizes I used

Managed to get the carbies rebuilt, new gasket kits in all.
Found the seals on the throttle & choke shafts were worn, so decided to replace them. Could not find any part numbers in Honda part listing.
So pulled one out, it was a small lip seal 14mm od x 10mm od x 3mm wide. Could not get any here in Australia, but found them in US

These are from  "Motion Indutries"
10X14X3 VG-NBR METRIC SEAL
STOCK
Item No..........: 0059751
Price............: 2.770  US
Eventually replaced them with "O"rings
Throttle shaft - 10mm ID x 2mm cross section

Choke Shaft - 6mm ID x 1.7mm Cross section
1. Removed the outer seal retaining plate, with a small screw driver, just gently lever it out
2. Remove old seal, clean, and install new "o"ring
3. Reinstall outer seal retaing plate, use a small socket that the seal plate fits over. Gently tap in with a small hammer, using the socket as a punch.

Will do. I actually only have 2 that are terrible. The others seem to seal fairly well and allow little play in the shafts. Thanks for the info.

I think they're more to keep dirt and whatnot out, rather than seal airtight. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
