72 cb750 "Dirty Fingernails"RUNS!!!!!
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:06:55 AM »
Just picked up a rough 72,complete with title,in a couple of hours had it completely stripped down, now the fun begins.I have another motor(75 F) which has compression and is in good shape so I will put that one in while I take this one apart to see what's up with it.I would like to hardtail the frame, but that costs money,If I want to just build a bike I can,I have enough parts, but part of me wants to build a bar hopper.Hmmmm??

Good score Bart. I need some stock parts so if you go the hardtail route keep me in mind before getting rid of anything. Cycle One makes killer hardtail kits.

Took apart the carbs, bad, but I've seen worse.Everything came apart easily, original yellow inspection paint still on everything so I dont think the bike was ever messed with. The no.3 carb was real bad compared to the rest so I am assuming the no.3 cylinder is going to be bad as well.

Got the head off,the jugs are stuck solid.no.1 and 4 are frozen to the cylinder walls.I have been trying soaking them P.B. Blaster, whacking them with a dead blow,I cant even break the contact.I guess I'll try marvel mystery oil next.I can wiggle the jugs a bit but cant break it.

You can have both... just put the 11.4 inch shocks on the back and lower the front forks 1 inch in the triple clamps. Bar Hopper. Low and mean.

If you want to rake the front end that requires more work and of course welding skills.

yes,boy were they bad.I cleaned the sh*t out of them though.I also have a bunch of spares(jets, float jets, needles, etc)This will be a really nice clean set soon, hell,I'll probably put em on my bike right now and clean mine at my leisure, not that anything is wrong with em,but a fresh clean synched set is hard to resist.

nah,I can only do lil stuff like carbs right now,I'm in a LOT of pain as I have an impacted gallstone and need surgery,I have to wait 2 more weeks til they gut me like a trout.Anytime I try and exert myself I'm in pain.I'll be on light duty for a about a month. Also yeah,I'm going to make it Low,and just to piss off my BMW snob friends, chunky metal flake paint.Like a 70's carnival ride,or a drumset.

started hacking into my cafe seat I made, putting in a tailight,Evrything I do from here on out is just what I have in my shop.No buying anything(cept oil of course)as My surgery on wed is costing me a LOT.Trying for a minimal Cafe, just the basics, but cool.cant afford a professional paint job,so I am sticking with flat black(ho hum)((sigh)) ::)I am going to throw in the extra motor I have and see what happens.

got the jugs off.started cleaning the frame and touching it up,no fancy powdercoat for me(cost $$$)stripping the new tank as it was rattlecanned anyway,I'm going to polish the bare tank like Andy's ;D ;D :-*after I have the frame nice enough I'm throwing in the motor ,hookin sh*t up and see if it fires up.still kinda slow from surgery, but I'm getting better each day.

Do not try to bend that fin back!! it could break.
You might be able to heat it with a hand held propane torch and clamp it between two steel plates 1/4 thick to straighten it.

If you use Duplicolor paint then you can spray if with two part clear that is in a special spray can . It is fuel proof and is compatible with duplicolor. It will look as good as powdercoat.

so I am on the fence about which look I am going for,any thoughts??Flat black with the cafe seat or raw and steampunk ,both very ratlike.I have these awesome little brass spikes at work we use on our machines, thinking about the raw with some brass and copper,I am going to make some copper fuel lines as I have all the stuff here at work to do it.Maybe do a front fender ala spikeybike raw with the lil brass spikes.Hmmm.I am jealous of you guy's with the custom paint jobs and spendy high perf parts,if only. :-\
