rear brake light options
« on: March 27, 2012, 05:38:15 PM »
I know its probably not the safest bet, the larger the brake light lens the better someone will see it, well hopefully.  I want to make the rear of my 550 a little more sleek.  I've been reading the posts on LED upgrades, and just wondering the most straightforward way to make my brake light a little brighter and maybe a little more stylish that the stock lens.  Any ideas or what has anyone done that is relatively inexpensive and effective as well?

Or should I just keep it stock (and simple).

The tail light on my 550F in my avatar pic to the left is a trailer light I picked up off the clearance rack at Lowe's for about $5.

Oh, and it is BRIGHT!!

How about a light from an older CB500 or CB750? They're smaller and neater looking, and mount right onto your bracket. Here's a picture of one I have, but haven't installed yet on my 550:

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

I'm a big believer in the blue dots!  I know they may be illegal in some states, but I would risk getting a ticket for them any day.  The purplish hugh they give off stands out from all the other taillights and really makes the guy behind you take notice.  I've installed them on ALL my bikes!

I like the shape of mine. I shall be installing a second bulb in it shortly.

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I have been looking to change mine. After completely re doing my bike the part I hate the most is the tail light/tag section. I want to change that so much. I think you should NOT keep the stock one. They look awful IMO.

i put two front turn signals in place of my rear now they light up when the brakes come on or when turning I used red bulbs but you can also use red leds on one end only of your bike if you have an electronic flasher unit you can use leds on both ends if you remove the sounder out of the flasher circuit or add resisters to the lines feeding the led bulbs otherwise the flasher won't have enough amperage flowing through it to flash
when you own a motorcycle the wife does not have to find you handy she just has to find you

I really like this idea. I pull small trailers a lot but I never thought of using a trailer light on a bike.
