cb550 and beyond!
« on: April 15, 2012, 10:05:03 PM »
Hello gents,

Let me start by saying I've come to find this one of the most resourceful sites for sohc hondas, and Im addicted!

So, I'm weighing my options as a first time buyer, and I've come across numerous bikes, but more recently Ive taken liking to a 76 cb550, its a clean bike, needs the general nourishment that you would expect, but it has charging system issues. It has 9K miles and they are asking $600 for it. Thoughts?

Anyone that can weigh in on their own experiences with similar problems would be greatly helpful. I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but i want to learn, and have the resources and peers to make it happen. Just want to know what I'm getting myself into with this bike.

Sounds like a good deal for a bike with only 9k miles.  Unless the windings and rotor are totally messed up, charging issues can be solved with after market, solid state Rectifier/Regulators.
