New '78 CB750k Owner in Edmonton
« on: April 05, 2012, 01:10:47 PM »
Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a little while and figure it's about time to introduce myself. I'm in Edmonton, Canada and just picked up a '78 Honda CB750k that I hope to turn into a cafe racer while learning a whole bunch of stuff along the way. Looking forward to having a completely new bike to learn about - I've never had a carbureted engine before.

As I tear this down and learn how to rebuild it, I'll be riding my daily commuter: 2005 Suzuki Boulevard M50.

Any advise for working on a '78 CB750k? Anything I should look out for? Thanks in advance for all the great advice I'm sure I'll get in the months/years to come!

Congrats, you have the most evolved of the SOHCs. I have one also. You should take you time and really clean the carbs very very carefully. You have an accelerator pump which tends to varnish up badly, there is very little fuel in it so it spoils quickly. You should locate the shop manual on this site download it and follow it. They will tell you the slow jets are pressed in, but they can be pulled out and they need to be cleaned well.

Good Luck,

Bobby

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded the manual and my plan is to restore it before I go crazy on the cafe mods. It runs ok, but I think it needs a good carb cleaning like you suggest. That's next week's project.

Beck, take your time and really do it right. I and a lot of others tried a quick fix and you wind up spending a lot of time taking them on and off. You will find taking them on and off is a lot of fun.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
