Tyres - Michelin Macadams
« on: May 18, 2006, 01:13:17 AM »
My 750F2 is in need of a new set of tyres - came across these (pic below) at the local bike shop the other day... Michelin Macadam 50 & 50E, a matching set. Googled for a bit and didn't really find anything in any of the reviews to suggest they would be a bad choice. Has anyone had/do use these tyres and can give a bit of a review? Cheers, Phil.

Can't talk for the 50's, but I used Macadam 90's on my old YZF.  Very good tires with long where and do grip the road.  Good tire choice.

While I haven't used that model Macadam I have used several sets on my FJ. They were allright... a little hard but I wasn't doing track days on them. It's a name brand tire....I would think they would be fine.

I'm now using the Macadams set you're asking about. As Chris & Mike state they should wear well, they are a little harder compound than the Dunlop K591's I used for years and their replacement 501.

One thing I do like is the fact the the tire grooves don't run through the outer edge of the contact patch. Lot's of sizes available too.

Thanks guys - you have all been most helpful. I'd not heard of them before spying them in the shop so was just after a bit more feedback. The fact that they were just sitting there in the exact sizings I need was a pleasant surprise! Think I will go ahead! Cheers, Phil

You can't really go wrong with the Macadams. They are a pretty good tire for the money, although I agree with the other guys - they seemed a bit harder, compound-wise, than other tires I've ridden on.   :)

I've got a set on my 400f and they work fine but like everybody says a bit hard but they might wear longer too.

Yeah, very nice.  How about coming to Philly & cleaning up my comstars?  I live a couple blocks away from a brewery.  ;D

You live next to Yards?  You lucky bastard.
The GW Porter and Thomas Jefferson ale are excellent.  I want some now.

Thanks! It is! That's because I haven't been able to ride it yet!!  :-\ Still waiting on clutch and throttle cables and various other little bits and pieces.

Is that front tire/wheel on backwards?

Geez, I hope not! Not according to the directional arrow on the sidewall anyway....

Thanks guys, for your comments  :)

Honestly, the pics are flattering - in real life things are not so rosy! These are 28 year old used and abused rims.... however, there's no secret - removed the rotors and got stuck in with an old toothbrush, then just elbow grease and a soft rag!  ;D

I've certainly had plenty of time whilst waiting for my parts to arrive to clean them up!!

Cheers, Phil
