Hi guys I need your help with my Pegasus bike. She is a 1976 CB750F.
The starter clutch is freshly rebuilt, Battery and wiring is all new as is the starter solenoid.
The bike was starting and running great.
I was out on a ride and while at a stop light and she stalled from idle. She did this a couple of times so I reached down and adjusted my idle to where upon she would idle without stalling. Strangely this took me up to 2000rpm after a few lights. In addition I noticed a slight hesitation or battery drain when electric starting the bike during the situation. My thinking was my battery was low on charge and this perhaps was messing with my idle.
After putting her back on the trickle charger I tried to get her to idle lower but the idle would not hold below around 1900rpm, if you tried to go any lower she would die. I cleaned the plugs, re synced the carbs and I'm at about 1800rpm idle at best which seems about as low as I can go. The bike runs beautifully its just the idle and a slight hesitation or light clunking coming from the alternator cover.
One thing I noticed was idle problem seemed to coincide with starting the bike and hearing the rattling coming from the alternator cover, sounds that reminded me of the starter clutch issue I had before rebuilding it. My thinking then became.... perhaps something is loose, maybe the flywheel, perhaps the imbalance of the starter clutch flywheel is causing the noise/rattle and causing the stall?
Well I took off the alternator cover and I noticed there is a little back and forth play, "not left and right" but back and forth on the "starter clutch flywheel"...is this how it should be?
It seems to me this back and forth play is affecting the the starter clutch sometimes although perhaps it has no affect on my idle...Just seems strange the condition happened at the same time.
Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I'm stumped and before I put the cover back on or over tighten the alternator bolt I wanted to see if you guys could advise me
Thanks!
