Billet Block Race
« on: March 30, 2012, 10:20:00 AM »
Ok, I don't know how many of you crazy fcukers have bought one of these and are currenlty working on them. However it seems to me, that someone should have a running example by now. I asked Mike not to long ago,  who had one up and running. I think he told me no one yet. So we need a status and projected  first start up date. I think there should be a prize as well. Ok lets go, whos got one.  8)

I was going to get one for our project until I found out the particular regulations of a 1300cc limit only apply if it's not a Honda, (where 1300cc actually means 836cc)!!!

If it is any consolation, it probably would not have been running yet due to another plan taking preference  :-\

Matt's thread got me motivated. I prepped the piston crowns and measured the rings gaps yesterday. I'll install the pistons today and more than likely put the cylinder and head on. I also have to install the JMC swingarm that has been sitting on a shelf for about 2 years. At least the frame kit is installed....should make engine installation much easier.

For those of you that may have missed it in the CR750 Build thread, meet 'Canine'

I call it canine (CB750K9) as it has parts from most of the K series and hence it's a mongrel. However, as you can see the motor with the JMR block is installed. The front forks and wheel will go on this week, I just need to get the front brakes and the wiring done thereafter and we're ready to go. Shouldn't be too long. Oh. and I need an exhaust system, delays, delays.

I don't want to blow my own horn but that block really gives the engine a meaty, substantial appearance. Kinda reminds me of the old Laverda's.

I had the same thought about the Laverda.  It does look much more substantial.  Very nice!

That's going to be one heck of a sleeper Eric. Looking forward to seeing it completed.

Stock seat, eh? Hope you've got strong biceps, because I think you're going to need them. (Not the worst problem to have.)
Take care,
David

Ok, it looks like we got a race going here. That big block looks awsome in the Canine. Although shouldn't it be called Kanine? It sounds like you are almost there. When will it run? Give us a projected start date. Also it sounds like Mike might be a runner up in the race. By they way Mike, blowing your own horn can cause you to go blind.

I just have to get the head milled to get the chamber cc size I want for the CR I want. Hopefully that will be done by this weekend. It is difficult to calculate the exact amount of material to be removed unless you access to some type of software developed for it. The problem is it doesn't fit into neat, elliptical formulas using chamber OD and maximum depth. There are variables that are difficult to account for such as  the chamber just isn't a standard shape (with valves sticking into the chamber etc). My son and I were working on it and he is a math major in college. The formula he was using was yielding removal of .1" for a 10.7 or so ratio. It would be difficult to remove that much material. ::) ;D Well...it wouldn't be difficult but it would certainly yield an interesting chamber. ;D

Mike can you reverse engineer the chambers with a CMM
develop the geometry threw that and and then use a machining center
(Your friends) to do each chamber
Just a thought as lot of my customers do this from parts as the prints no longer available

Mike,

You really need to have that fancy machine engrave your initials on the ends of the blocks! Lots of room on the side fins for JMR to be cut in  ;D Good advertising and bragging rights.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

It has JMR Porting on a badge where the original 736cc was Jerry. I wanted a clean, original look just with the larger fins. I'll be putting the cylinder on tomorrow I think....just waiting for 1 valve spring to put the head together.
