My hesitation withe the 404 is that it seems to be a touring HD / tire and the reviews are not as positive as with the BT45 or the Roadrider. The riding that I will be doing will be between touring and sport.

I put Dunlop 404 on both my KO and K6 right after I got them. Got them at a good price and for the type of riding I do they work fine for me. No complaints. But when its time for new one's I will more than likely try something different maybe BT45.

My 550 cafe has D404's, bought it that way. Good tire for the money, just put them on my K8.
The Avon may be a better tyre (?) bit you will pay for it. I did not feel the need.

I can post a photo if you'd like.

Here is the D404 on the front of my '76 550K, size is good, 100/90-19

Here is the rear, 110/90-18. Too small in my opinion. Fender looks massive compared to tire.
I want to put a wider tire on. And maybe a wider rim? This is my 'hood rider, I wont put 1000 miles a year on it so squared off wear is not a concern. Go with a 120/90 unless yours is a daily rider.

Picture me, hugging the Avon Roadriders on my 750...hard to beat, IMO! I think the Avon number is AM26.

Geez Mark, if you hug your tires, I'd hate to think what you do to your exhaust pipes! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You can take a look at IRC GS-11.

I too am looking for tires. And have watched to see what the response is for the best.

Theres another thread where someone has asked about tires. Thats where I learned of the IRCs.

If it sounds like I know what I'm talking about, it's because I cut and pasted from someone else.

I don't think that IRC offers the GS-11 anymore? (per their website)
Interesting that the GS-18 and GS-23 (which looks promising) are made for Suzukis and only come in odd sizes.

My Avon Road Rider 26's.
front 100/90-19.
Rear 130/8-17.

The OD of the two wheels with tires is almost the same.

I've got D404s on 550 and 750. 100/90/19 & 110/90/18 and 100/90/19 & 130/90/16 <=(or something like that)... They handle great for me! Smooth on curves.  I ride a lot in the rain and they've performed very well... as long as there's tread.  ;D Sticky fresh new rubber is always great!

Hmmmm  this may come down to pulling a name out of a hat....
 - I have the brand loyalty with the Avons,
 - The BT-45 gets nothing but rave reviews and the cost is not much more than the D404, and
 - The D404 has the lowest cost and also the most vintage / symetrical thread of the three.

Hey Lucky, check the direction of rotation marks on your tires, I think one of them is mounted back to front? Cheers, Terry. ;D

It sure looks that way, but if memory serves me the Avons are different than most others. They do have arrows for mounting direction though.

Unless someone is racing the BT45's look to be the best bang for the buck.

+1 mate, I've been fitting BT45's exclusively to all of my bikes over the last 15 or so years, and am very happy with them. It's a testimony to their excellence that a design so old can still do so well against more modern tires. I've always been a fan of Avons though, so I might try a set of the Roadriders on my Suzuki GS1000 if they're available here in Oz, the Suzy's tires have plenty of tread, but are quite old, so due for retirement. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You have to admit, apart from their cool uniforms, they had some great equipment! Oh, and Metzler tires are very good too! ;D
