yeah so ive run through my fair share of bt45s,,and they are good,,i think the pirrelli sport demons suit me more though,,i had scalloped wear on the front with bt45s as did my mate with a 90s gsx750,,i like the rounded profile of any bike tyre over a square type.

......and I am going with.....
The Avon Roadrider.
Based on:
 -The tyre test review,
 - Lucky's pics (they look good/ not too modern a tread pattern on the Lucky's bike)
I will post some pics when I get them mounted up.

"You can beat the ol steel but you will get arrested for it if you do it in public" Just sayin'

FWIW my 550 came with a set of Kenda Challengers. For anyone reading up on tires, these tires are OK for now but I probably wouldn't buy them again. They have a weird little feeling just as you're laying the bike over for a sharp turn. I've gotten used to it but I would go for the Bridgestones or Avons next time.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I don't think that IRC offers the GS-11 anymore? (per their website)
Per their website...
http://www.irc-tire.com/mce/tires/gs-11.html
They're a very popular tire, especially for vintage bikes. I recently bought an '82 GS750 with under 2,000 total miles that came equipped with GS11s as OE. I replaced them with a new pair last week.

Terry, that's a great shirt!
Did they ever broadcast Dad's Army down there? BBC repeats the episodes over and over again as the British keep demanding this. So every week I treat myself with an episode that I've watched at least three times already before. The more you see them, the more you like them. It's my favourite alltime sitcom. Brilliant.
BTW, I'm looking for DVD's that might offer French subtitles to give it a present to a friend in France, where it never was on tv. Was Dad's Army ever broadcasted in Canada? Are there any French speaking Canadians in this forum?

Ha ha, I thought you'd like it mate. Yep, it was very popular here, my father has just about every episode on DVD and loves watching it, he was in our version of the "Home Guard" before he joined the Air Force, and he says that there were a couple of guys of Jonesy's vintage in his unit, who'd fought the "Fuzzy Wuzzies" in the Sudan under Lord Kitchener. I imagine that it was dubbed into French, but I don't know for sure, what about checking Amazon in France? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yep, I could take you to a place where there's several Martini Henry .577's that are holding up rose bushes.

My mate's Dad was accidentally killed in the 1964 bushfires, he was a gun collector, anyway, the house burned down and my mates Mum used the Martini's that had some fire damage for garden stakes.

In 1972, when I first stayed out on the farm, the actions still cocked and fired, but I'm betting they're buggered now. I've got a few old guns here, including one that's just had it's 200th birthday!

Back onto bikes for a sec, Tomorrow I'm going over to catch up with a mate who owns several CB1100R's, an RC30, a new Goldwing and a couple of Bimota's. I better take my camera or you blokes won't believe me! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Guys, a little of topic don't you think?
Nice job hijacking a thread.  When someone looks at this thread in the future to figure out what tires to get for their bike I am sure they will be delighted to get your take on war, guns and bayonets.
Maybe you should start your own thread to bat it around?
Again I was interested in and the topic is tires.

I see that you're new here Jeff, so I'll give you a hint mate, there are more tire threads here than you've had posts, or birthdays, or hot dinners, If you really want to learn about tires, don't start another tire thread, just do a search, and your thirst for knowledge will be well and truly quenched. Cheers, Terry. ;D

...actually I looked at the other tire posts and did not see much feedback regarding the D404 or the Roadrider... hence the reason behind starting my thread.
But thanks for the hint...

There's also an Open Forum for non bike related posts. Seems like the intended goal was to keep informative threads like this from becoming useless about birthdays and TV shows.

Note: On my 750 I'm running a 130 on a 16" rim. After a lot of miles (sorry lost count) of mostly straight stop & go (stop sometimes and go fast ;D) I've worn out much of the rear tire with a flat spot.  :(  The edge of this flat spot just happens to be on one of the tread grooves thus accentuating the feeling of a little shift when leaning into sharp curves. Probably not much different than any other fat tires with a flat spot.. I'm not sure.

FWIW .... cheers
