So today's daily crisis consisted of modifying the speedo bracket as with the new yoke from a honda Gl1000 the holes on the speedo bracket didnt line up.
So now that problem is solved pictures to follow.

Next problem came when trying to fit the new coils I have

The new coils have electronic spades which get into the way of the brackets see below

Where the old coils didnt have any

So it looks like I'm going have to notch the backer

Well I've made a start on my wiring nightmare
I have a 1978 new wiring loom and have managed to make a "good go of it"

However I could do with a little help in identifying these wires

Thanks

Lots of folks have replaced the R/R with a modern piece easily available, try the search top left.
Why? If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Familyvan,

I really like the look of your bike.  My K7 is similar -- to the extent I am using a Super Sport tank and a GL1000 front.  That Dresda Swingarm is awesome.  Only in the UK can you find one of those on ebay or an autojumble.  Here, they are RARE.  I like the conversion to rear disc brake.  I'm wondering why you are using Super Sport (F) sidecovers.  Just to match with the tank and rear disc brake?

Also, what's the story with the VFR800 front discs.  Did they directly bolt onto the stock front hub?  Did you need any spacers to match the GL1000 front calipers??

In regards to the side panels I liked them because they look smoother and flow better with the bike.

The VFR discs only needed a little re drilling in order to assist bolting to the hubs. I have had to make some adapters to bolt to calipers to the forks

I may need to do some additional work regarding the speedo and cable but I only time will tell.

Are your old coils faulty? Are you keeping them? If you would like to part with them I would be interested. PM me.

Lester I will have a look. The bike did run before breaking it down. So they should work. Just the wiring looked tired. Will dig them out and post some pictures

On another note.

I have now got fuel and oil in the engine. When I went to fire it the starter motor was only spinning over. So I did a quick search and swapped for a second starter motor. It still does the same thing

1. Should the clutch gear spin in one direction freely when engine not moving ??

So I suspected that the engine was not firing on all 4. So I did the wet finger test on the exhaust manifolds and it turns out that number 3 is hot. So have now removed the carbs to clean them after I had tested the spark on the lead and plug.

I had a feeling that I hadn't syn the carbs properly when I rebuilt them ( slight ignorance on my behalf)

So that will be my job for the weekend!!

I love restoring stuff

I have now got all the bits required to restore the rear caliper. Which is off a 1976 750cc supersport. When I removed the old pistons they were junk. So I got my mate to make me some stainless steel new ones.

I believe the front fender is a harley sporter fender. Not sure what year as my mate had it layed around and have it to me. It only required a little cutting. In order to mount it close to the wheel.
