Any electrical wizards? I'm Stumped after a carb cleaning
« on: April 01, 2012, 09:14:05 AM »
I took my carbs off last night to clean out the bowls and jets since the motor hasn't run since 1997, and now I get no lights where my key goes in. It worked before I took the carbs off and the only wires I disconnected were to my pamco ignition unit. Just wondering if it's something obvious that I'm missing. Thanks guys!

Can you take some pictures?? It might help.. Also..I'm guessing you've gone over all the obvious things already?

Hi George,
I would check the fuses first..the main fuse in the fuse box under the left side cover of you're bike, remove the fuses first and clean the contact metal clips up real clean & then clean the fuses up.I have also seen the base of the ignition switch loosen up underneath and do what you are describing.I doubt that when you pulled you're carbs off it caused this... ;)

The clip behind the head cluster wasn't plugged in tight. It looked like it was but I checked it just in case. Not sure what would have caused it but who knows. Thanks for all the replies guys!

On a side note, I tore the carbs apart a second time due to carb number two overflowing. I took the float out and cleaned the rubber tip needle, but it's still over flowing. Any suggestions?

You may have to remove them again and check up inside the float needle brass "seat"...it may have some bit of lint or other thing that's keeping it from fully sealing.
I've taken all the floats out and blown about 15 pounds of air through the fuel inlet hose and kind of "back flushed" blown them out...check & be sure that the inner screens are clean,if it has them on each float needle seat.
