Just got back 500...
« on: April 01, 2012, 06:55:52 AM »
The 4 carburetor, (the one away from the ignition), is leaking from the overflow pretty good...  I did leave the gas on for a couple hours after stopping (doh!)
The carbs were worked over by my uncle, soda blasted, needles cleaned out good... floats set and synched.  Runs great...
Just a nice little dead spot in my driveway now...

Figured i'd ask here before yelling at him... he's cheap as hell, but sooooo slow.  (and doesn't like answering the phone)

Not at all uncommon..
It's likely just a sticky float. Tap it with the handle of a screw driver.

That's step 1 :-)

Usually works well enough for me.

I have a set of pd50s that are on my cb650, I had them off the fix a leaky accelerator pump.  In that process they were invertered, on their back, on their face etc.  I put them back on turned on the gas, fired up the bike, it ran, I shut it off, walked away, came back a minute later and gas was coming out the overflow.  I tapped all the bowls with a screwdriver and actually heard the float drop.  I guess they get bound in all the tumbling about.  Give it a shot before you yell at your uncle.

Thanks guys... that's probably it.  Ran her for awhile, smacked the carb a bit... (remembered to turn gas off)  and that one doesn't leak now.  Number one does! lol  but barely a drip... took a couple hours to even notice.  So i guess i need to give it a pop.   ;D
I will say this... bike fires up without choke, idles real nice (and low).  Goes faster now than I really want her too.   ;)
