Leaking Petcock
« on: March 31, 2012, 04:24:01 PM »
Well thanks for all the information on a reasonable price for a CB 350.  I have not been dissuaded from selling and I was getting the machine ready to show off.  I added fuel to the tank the carb overflows started draining even though the petcock was shut.  A couple gentle wacks with a piece of wood got the needle valves to shut.  Then I found fuel leaking out of the petcock.  I tightened the screws and this slowed things down.  Is it just that the rubber seal is dry or do I have to get a new one.  I am letting everything soak in gas and I have a funnel placed under the petcock to divert the drips away from the engine.  I must say that the bike started up immediately after three years dormant and was a delight to drive.  Of course I had to replace the battery and unbind the front brakes before I could get out and about.

Do I need to get a new gasket or will it swell with hydrocarbons and seal???

I'm still waiting for mine to re-seal a week later ;D... don't think time/gas will help !.... I just got a new rubber washer today. It should be Honda part # 16955-268-020 if your petcock is the same dia. as the bigger bikes ( ( think it is )... Good luck.
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Make sure there are rubber washers on the bolts to the tank.  If not, gas will leak past the bolts into the bowl.  You can use o-rings as well.

Thanks,  I forgot about those rubber seals between the tank and the petcock.  Time to go to my Honda shop and get some new rubber.
