Replacing Chain and sprockets on 78 550k need advice.
« on: April 04, 2012, 11:15:35 AM »
My Chain is loose and has a solid rattle to it, especially when it is not lubricated. I do not want to take this project on by myself. Ive decides not knowing the history of the bike that i should replace the sprockets and chain I went to the local Honda dealer, who has been great to me(they just found 8 brand new exhaust studs for me), and they have way to many options for chains and sprockets.

At this point price is not the main concern, I have learned with these bikes that its better to buy the right part once, than buy something cheap and have it not fit, and struggle, or worse like turnsignals break after a week

The bike is set up as a Cafe racer and  I am planning on removing the chain guard.
I need advice on chain, what type, and sprockets, should i look for a chrome rear....etc

Advice and experience would be greatly appreciated. ....pics too

Get the stock Honda sprockets if you still can, for the chain get a Diamond chain in the stock size for the bike.
I think an oring chain is not good for these models due to clearance issues.

530 Non O ring chain is what you need.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I knew about the 530, is nickel or gold worth it, or will they just turn black quickly.

I have no experience of those types but I would think on a Non O ring chain they are going to look dirty all the time.

"Gold" chains hold up pretty well on these bikes. Just use a good clean chain lube and they stay looking pretty good.
