oil leaking out of my left engine side cover on my cb70K
« on: April 02, 2012, 06:07:20 PM »
I have been having trouble with the engine acting like the battery is loosing power. I noticed that there was oil leaking out of the three screw holes in the strator cover. Am I wrong in thinking that there shouldn't be oil where the strator is housed? Thanks

There is oil behind the stator cover and a gasket behind that cover. It should not be leaking from the 3 screws on the outside cover. Are they tight? I have not heard of oil leaking from those screws ever. I take it you mean the screws near the HONDA insignia on that cover, right? The battery issue...how old is the battery and what are the symptoms of "loosing power?" Total power loss? Lights dimming or what?

Everything behind the cover seems okay. I did notice that the screws had worked loose maybe 1/2 turn . I am using SS screws so maybe they weren't torqued well enough the first time....they are now for sure. The battery is from Batteries Plus so I'm thinking that it's crap. I have heard they don't hold up very well. I'm headed over to the dealer for an OEM battery. We'll see if that makes a difference. Thanks everybody for the help. Cheers, Steve

There are copper sealing washers under those screws which are often discarded when the screws are replaced.

Or the washers are still stuck down in the holes and being used and deformed, they no longer seal properly.

Hellll yeaaaaaa!! Kick ass Cats. I BLEED BLUE  ;D I get to watch 90% of our games even in Colorado. Time to reload starting Friday. Noel, Shabazz, etc!!

Is there a "used" shop in Lex now? Should you need to locate any used parts try Magnum Cycles on Dixie in Loserville. Tell the owner Bob or his son Daniel that Drugman told you to come by.

Ron, please ignore my BS. Just can't help myself sometimes  ;) ps thanks for Teague. Tom Crean is gonna kick some serious ass up your way!
