Where to find the little plastic starter button?
« on: April 03, 2012, 10:33:16 AM »
I'm not having any luck finding just the little black starter button (I suspect it may be the same as the horn button) for my 550k1.  Everyone has complete control assemblies but not a button.

My kill switch/start button handlebar assembly is fine, but for some reason the PO wired an aftermarket button from the hole where this used to be onto the handlebar, and I'd like to put it back to stock.

You probably already tried Western Hills Honda in Ohio. Next would be to find a junky used switch and take the button out. Problem is it will be just as old as the one you have now. Just hopefully not a brittle. Did you put a "wanted" post in the forum? Might get lucky...

partsnmore sells new plunger, spring and buttons for 750s but it should be the same rig as on other vitage Hondas.

I did have to sand down the brass plunger to an acceptable lenth, mine was way long.

I think it's a bit sad people splitting switchgear for a small part.  :(

'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

The starter button was missing on both my K1 and my 500 K3 parts bike however the horn button was intact on the parts bike and as far as I could tell the horn and starter button, spring and contact are identical so I just swapped it into the right hand control of my K1. Works like a charm.

Is it the 75 model? I know 76-up had the switch inside not just the button.

Thanks for all the info everyone, it slipped my mind that I could ebay search for 750 switches specifically as well.  @messeduptriple, I'll buy yours off you, pm me how much you want and we can set something up.

My bike is a '75 and I'm 95% sure that's what year the control is (no reason not to be, but you never know), however, I'm not sure how just a button and a spring would make it work as right now there are two wires coming out of the button's original hole to the aftermarket button on my handlebar.  I'd assume I need something for these wires to screw into so that when the button is pushed they contact.  More of a complete switch assembly than just a button face.  If someone knows the inside of the unit better than I do (maybe there's a place where these wires screw into the inside of the housing or something?), please explain.

In looking through the microfiche's (plural?) I can't find an exploded view to figure this out myself.  Also, useful info, my horn button does not have the letters "tec" stamped on it where you press the button (as I learned from an ebay listing) and something about these types of buttons won't work with a housing where the button wasn't stamped with this.  The listing explains this specific button was on '74 550k's

So yeah, assuming I need a switch now not a "button"?
