be sure to tune in to Velocity (a division of Discovery) April 19 at 8 p.m. (EST). Until then, here’s a bit more info about the show courtesy of the PR Newswire press release. (Cafe Racer) returns.

I was excited when it first came out but after watching 2 seasons, I don't think I'll be watching season 3.  I subscribed to the magazine when it first came out too becuase I thought it would turn into something better (more technical, more vintage motorcycle oriented, more rare bikes) but it just kind of got old real quick.  How many times can you read / watch misinformation about bikes or see all the stupid little lifestyle segments?  For me, I've hit my limit.

Season 3 will air on Discovery channel proper, and it's allegedly going to be slightly less ADD, but you know it probably still wont be a show that's really about motorcycles. You need to put it in perspective a little. If we crafted a show that we thought was relevant, it would bore the pants off most of the people who like watching the reality BS they generally air. So it's got to be somewhere in-between. It also will draw a lot more inexperienced fashionistas to classic bikes.
Stop thinking of it as diluting something pure, and look at it as an opportunity to sell your bikes for 3x what they're really worth, and/or get work out of fixing them when the trustafarian gets stuck with dead batteries/clogged carbs/no fork oil.. etc.

I've mostly enjoyed watching Cafe Racer. Good to see old bikes getting the attention of young people. There's another TV show in production called Retro Moto... but don't think it's been scheduled to air yet. Trailer at

I laughed when that front wheel bearing disintegrated due to their muckup on that one episode.

the only show with a formula that I think is entertaining and somewhat satisfying to gearheads is "wheeler dealers', because it doesn't insult our intelligence. however, there's not a ton of intelligence in the US viewing public.. so they're not easily insulted.

I kinda like wheeler dealers too.
I dont always agree with what they do or how but i can at least understand the reason they are doing it if that makes any sense
they are not just hacking stuff up for fun

I also watch chasing classic cars.  I find the history interesting.

I like what Phil71 has to say.  But Ill also say I couldnt care less if it were a sand cast or not.  These bikes were produced in massive numbers and there are plenty of sand cast survivors around.  TV is about entertainment.... Ill take any show thats got two wheels in it instead of another Jersey Shore.

I don't know... I kind of like the show.

I didn't like the 750 hack job and am not a fan of mono shock SOHC bikes.  Why?

I just like bike shows and pretty much watch all the Velocity and Speed channel motor head shows. I have been involved in club racing with a friends car for a number of years and when I saw the first episode of Cafe Racer, I found a great way to build something for myself. I was hooked on vintage Hondas and had to do one. (I'm on my second)

The show is what brought me to this forum and to this hobby.

That sounds like someone I would want to beat up and steal their wallet....or more likely a man purse.  Not someone I would ever want to see around classic bikes. ;D

Now and then "Cafe Racer " does show some people doing interesting work.
But I mainly like the opening video/music segment.

Yes, "Wheeler Dealers" is a pretty good show--The mechanic is quite a knowledgeable fellow.

Thank you... can we stop pretending that these Hondas we all love so much are 1920 duesenbergs? They are beautiful, amazing bikes but they are hardly rare. If someone wants to "hack it up" so be it.
And of course it is over produced and non tech, its TV. I think they are trying to appeal to more people than the thousand of us on this forum.
I like wheeler dealers too however the premise is crap. Buy a car for 2000 bucks put 1500 of parts in it, and 30 hours of professional labor then sell it for 3600. That’s not a profit. These guys would make way more money just working in a shop as a mechanic for a day.

ok my rant is over.

I didn't enjoy watching them toss parts on the floor that I am saving my lunch money to buy off E bay. That's  just arrogant.

I too have noticed they seem to get excited over the tiniest profit without taking into account the amount of labor they've expended... ??? ???
