I apologize to those who frequent both this forum and cafereacers...

I've ventured into the world of vintage motorcycles from a simple Google search on cafe bikes after seeing a few of them pop up on my local motorsports forum. I love the look and the lines of some of the cafe bikes... However lurking around here and being a function over form kind of guy the bike has to flat out work before it can look as I see fit.

A guy at work had these two CB750s and I told him I was interested took for ever to get the deal sorted but finally this weekend i picked up these two '78 CB750s One being a K and the other being an F.

Unfortunately the F does not run and the motor seems to be locked up.

The K bike is a running riding bike. It needs a rear sprocket and tires to be road ready... Along with getting rid of that Awful seat! it used to be a cruiser type bike and had a Vetter fairing and a sissy bar... Ugh.

Alright enough talking here are the pictures from just before picking them up:

Here's the K Model, the PO put the Super Sport tank on the K bike along with the head light, and a few other bits since it originally had the fairing.









The seat is horrible... I am thinking that for now a stock style seat will suit just fine, I do not want to get into altering the riding position until everything else on the bike is done.

I am not really sure as to which direction to go. Part of me says to throw all of the F bike stuff on to the K frame and go ride that way. But I also think that I could simply do a GL1000 front end swap and gain a larger diameter fork tube and restore the F bike.  Possibly a CBR600 with a Superglide wheel... who knows at this point what is going to happen there. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

In the end I want a bike that will ride and handle well and have a cafe racer look to it. I'll work from the ground up, tires, wheels, Brakes, etc... and lastly some sort of bars (not Clubmans Thanks to Geeto67 for all of those flamings), seat, and rear sets.

Needless to say I can't wait to get started!

If you switch the tanks, they will be on the right bike by the looks of it.  Welcome to the forum!
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

The F has the best 750 front braking system, triple discs.  the seats don't swap without moving the brackets. They are welded on. I agree, the tanks are already switched. Probably for a reason.

Yes the tanks we swapped because the k tank was rusty inside.

Yes the seats don't swap already figured that one out... Bummer, but neither seat is is worth saving.

I'm thinking that I should swap the F fork/swing arm over to the k bike and ride. Is also be interested in the gl1000 fork swap as I understand you get a larger fork tube and brakes. Or even a cbr600 swap with a narrowglide wheel.
