thread compound on clutch lifter plate bolts?
« on: April 07, 2012, 11:07:34 PM »
I removed a 750K clutch and the lifter plate bolts have some thread compound on them - it looks like PTFE paste.

Seems to me that's
A) not OEM spec
B) a bad idea - plumbers' paste turns into little oil jet sized goo balls as it dries.

But - is it a good idea to put a bit of blue LocTite on there?
Or is it total overkill?

Bumping back to the top as I am re-building my clutch as well...

While taking my apart, I saw no evidence of any compound.....

Careful locking down those lifter bolts, I'm borrowing a inch/lb tourque wrench when my NEW lifter plate comes in.....

Thanks Grumpy,

...when my NEW lifter plate comes in.....

are they really that fragile?
seems strange - the clutch sees a lot of heat, torque, and vibration. you'd think that would be someplace they'd use steel.

Some folks seem to be breaking them on reinstallation I believe.

I don't think Honda used thread locker nor do I believe it was necessary.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
