haha well thats after I washed it down. it was filthy but theres not a speck of rust on it, guy had it stored in a heated basement for 10 years and told me to take it cause he needed room.  12,XXX miles on it and only thing actually with any rot are the 4 silencers.

what would it take to get it road worthy after sitting for so long?

Mine sat for 22 years in an unheated garage (mine by the way  ::), long story). At the very least a complete tune-up. Download the manual and go by that. The electrics might be good, can only try. If not and you find some things not working, you may have to go through the harness connection by connection cleaning the mating parts. You will find lots of info using the search button here, but just be aware, you have to, for now, use the "Google Custom Search" box that appears just below the Home on the left side of the screen.

As beautiful condition as that one is in, a lot of people here would say don't hack it apart!  Get it running right and you will have a beautiful machine.

I would say start with taking the carbs off and checking them out.  I would suggest doing a complete cleaning of them and see if any of the internals need to be replaced.

Great places for parts:

You will likely have to deal with the brake system as well.

Are the items in (..) your to-do list? If so, minimal costs save for tires and that depends on what you get as replacements. The carbs and brakes might involve some small parts depending on what you find, but for the most part just some work.

Price shouldn't be too much unless it needs something major. Tires will likely be your most expensive and you have lots of choices...I would say expect around $250 depending on what you are looking for. Carbs, well in my experience full rebuilds are not normally needed. A couple of cans of cleaner and some time is normally needed but not generally new internals. Brakes, again probably don't need to be replaced and in most cases the MC and caliper can be saved with elbow grease!

All depends though...good luck with it!!

well again coming from a car guy i assume

-brakes
-new tires
-rebuild on carbs
-new fluids

and i hopefully should be good, the guy i got it from gave me a small service history and looks very detailed from what I can see

just besides online ordering, where would be a good place to get parts for this bike?

Fortunately the only fluids are brake fluid and oil. They joys of an aircooled bike in which the tranny uses the oil from the engine (also why full sunth isn't recommended). Oh and gas I guess....lol

Speaking of gas give the tank a once over and maybe flush or if really bad acid bath it to prevent the junk from replugging the carbs you spent hours rebuilding!!

checked the tank and it appears clean on the inside,

one thing i noticed when I wheeled it in is that the front caliper was frozen, luckily the bolts came off easily and were coated with lithium grease (nice plus)

I bled the line to get all the old #$%* out of it, but would it be better to just replace the brake/clutch lines just for the hell of it since the bikes been sitting for so long?

What a great deal!

Replacing old rubber brake lines with modern stainless braided lines is an inexpensive and easy way to increase braking power.  I would also rebuild the master cylinder and caliper while it was all apart.  Just buy a master rebuild kit and caliper seal.  The piston itself is likely fine.

do people find it easier to get the parts online or any specific store that would carry old bike parts?

Still can buy these parts from your local Honda Dealer. Look up the parts numbers and order them. I think they started making 4/4 pipes again forr 77/8 K bikes. Pricey though when you started with a free bike!

Go there to buy or look up parts #s to take to your local shop.

Good luck!

Clean carbs
Change oil
Rebuild front brake.
3000 mile tune up
New tires.

About $500 - 700 and you should be roadworthy. And have a nice classic Honda worth at least $2K.

Great looking bike! maybe after $700 might be worth... $4,000-$5,000?
