Tews...it is the same place that has done all my tins. In-Line Auto Body in Oshkosh. Ask for Kurt or Joe. Kurt owns the place and he did some of my tins. Then Kurt taught Joe how to do candy and he did Jerry's. They just look fantastic. I took in a real nice unfaded candy gold headlight bucket so he could match the gold. They now keep that receipt in a book for future work. Tell them Honda John sent you...they will treat you well. They are good to work with and friendly folks too...

No decals is the way to go if you have a painter that can do it the right way. By that I mean taking measurements from an extra OEM tank to get the look exact. This guy in WI is good and detail oriented.

Work continues on K Two....

Wheels are cleaned up, black paint removed from front hub, polished and new bearings installed.  Its nice to have a local bearing supply house (Oshkosh Bearing & Transmission).  They had everything I needed on the shelf, and at a fraction of what you would pay online.  A few years back, I was working on a project that I needed a new bearing pressed in.   I usually had to drop stuff off at a local machine shop, and then wait a week to get it back.  I got tired of waiting, so I made my own hydraulic press.  Turns out, I made it just big enough to fit a SOHC wheel  ;D.  Just to be clear, installing bearings in the wheels can be easily done with a hammer, but since I have the press sitting there, I had to use it.  Made an easy job of installing the All Balls bearing on the lower tree as well.  Nice not having to hammer on the bearings.
 




With all the bearings installed, next up was mounting the new Conti's which went on with a minimum  amount of encouragement ;).  Front forks were taken apart, cleaned, polished, and put together with new seals (with a little help from the forum archives)





Center stand and Hondaman rebuilt swingarm were next......... I was really fortunate when picking the bike up, (it had aftermarket shocks on it), looking around the PO's garage, I spotted the original shocks in a pail in the corner... they cleaned up like new.






I'm pretty sure my neighbors must wonder why I am constantly wheeling that thing out and taking pictures of it..... oh well  ;D.







While on the subject of taking pictures, I couldn't resist checking out how the tank would look on the frame..... here is a teaser shot:






Focus next was on getting the battery box/electrics back on.  Check out the starter solenoid...  there's an excellent section on how to rebuild it in Hondaman's book,  its as clean and shiny on the inside as the outside now.  All connectors on the harness and battery box were cleaned, some of them were covered in the greenish corrosion,  a bit tedious, but should pay off in the end.   Note the replacement fuse block from Honda (also known as 32110-300-000) - I love the outdated stuff like this, part of what makes it a vintage bike.

I was lucky enough to get two really big boxes from the Honda mothership....




but looks like I'm going to really have to hunt down the other two.  Darn, just when its my time to order a set of HM341's,  Honda decides to (hopefully temporarily)  discontinue production.  I have pipes number 1 and 4 (18300-341-907 / 18450-341-907)  and am looking for numbers 2 and 3 (18350-341-907 /18400-341-907)  Have any extras lying around that you want to sell?  PM me !!!! :D

I great looking K2 is somewhat rare because of the short production run. This looks like a group ride in the future to go around Lake Winnebago.  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for stopping by everyone, and the nice compliments.... really appreciate them!

Unfortunately I'm running out of time to get k2 finished and running this year, with the Wisconsin winter fast approaching.  Rather than rush and try to get it running, I'm going to work on the remaining pieces in my basement workshop, and finish up in spring.

The winter "to do" list:
-rebuild carb rack
-overhaul master cylinder
-rebuild brake caliper
-restore Honda logos for tank
-finish up the remaining bits and pieces
-find a sack of money somewhere to fund the purchase of the remaining parts (most notably 2 more exhaust pipes and a new Honda seat to replace that King and Queen beauty it came with)
-go over engine overhaul step by step in my mind until spring, wondering if I did everything correctly ; ???

Dennis,  SOHC day around Lake Winnebago next year sounds great!  I'm in! (well as soon as I have a running 750 ;D ;D ;D)

Someone must have it too easy in Nebraska......fellow member Grasscutter from Omaha rode his CX500 to Wisconsin (Rocker Box Festival) after his CB650 had a problem.  I rode my K3 all over Utah in 2009, then Wyoming and Idaho in 2011.

When the snow is gone and the weather is HOT (above 70) I could ride to Oshkosh (Johnie) and then on to Little Chute (Jerry) and then down the east shore to Fond du Lac.  Let's see......breakfast in Oshkosh, a stop at the Honda shop in Menasha/Appleton, Lunch in Stockbridge or Brothertown, enjoy the lakeshore and a few curvey roads near Fond du Lac, maybe an afternoon break at the beach, I go home to Cascade and you guys continue to Oshkosh and Little Chute.

Anyone else.....Hoodelly?.......It would be about 200 miles for the day.

I have read through a lot of build threads here and I don't think I've seen anything this impressive.... It's going to be a site to see when it's put back together...

Keep me posted on that ride... I'm hoping to do a trip around Lake Michigan starting in Grand Rapids(Current Home)going through the U.P.(College Home) and ending in Milwaukee (Hometown) for a ferry ride home... That would make for a nice addition to the trip.
