CB500 build thread: By JBS

Last fall I picked up this 1971 CB500four. All original with about 9,000mi. My goal is to build a cafe bike. This is my second bike, first build. Hope you enjoy!

Stripped down with just the tank and seat. I think I'm keeping the original color scheme. I will have the seat painted the yellow/gold color

Today I picked up the frame, swing arm and several other parts from the powder coater. All gloss black. I'll start putting this thing back together now!

Yikes, that's a pretty mint bike to be chopping up.  Another sacrifice to the cafe gods i guess...

Well its easier to start with a good bike. Your end product is also nicer and of a higher quality, IMO. Thats what I'm going for, not some chopped up pieced together pile of #$%*. Different strokes for different folks, if you do not like it then do not post in my thread, I'd like to keep it positive!

Just ordered a bunch of parts from Dime City and Benjie's. Cant wait to start puting this thing together. Pics to follow once the parts arrive!

Got the motor put back in the other night. Actually went back in much easier than it came out. Waiting on parts now.

So I'm painting a few small miscelaneous parts. Using a rattle can- gloss black. A couple of the parts are going to be next to or fitting up against a powder coated part. The rattle can paint job doesnt look as nice, obviously. It has some orange peel and if i can get rid of that it would look the same or close to as good as the powder coated parts. Once the part is painted, then do you color sand, and with what? Or do you put down a clear coat? Any suggestions? Thanks.

My initial comment was not intended to be negative, nor did I intend to resurrect the "too nice to cafe" argument.  Just as this is a public forum and I can say what I want, it's the bike owner's prerogative to do what he pleases to his possessions. 

Regarding all of the stock bits you chopped off, i.e. fenders, airbox, seat, bars, lights, exhaust, etc., are you planning on allowing the forum community the opportunity to use those good condition parts to rebuild their project bikes to stock form?  That's an excellent way to boost karma and forum standing!! :-D

Yes, I will sell some of the parts. I have everything, just not sure on when I will be posting them. I guess soon.
