NOS CB400F Exhaust...
« on: April 09, 2012, 08:36:22 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the silver coating along the weld seams is?  I assume it was applied by the mfg. to inhibit rust from forming along the welds.  Should I clean it off or will it burn off while riding?

Also looking for a NOS muffler...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

That looks defective you should just send the exhaust to me and buy another one.  Hah, just kidding.  It looks like maybe they chromed the pipes and then welded them together, and that's some kind of paint to protect the welds and keep the chrome from flaking?  I'd just leave it be and ride on.

That's what I thought too but the paint was applied over the chrome finish, i.e. the collector/pipe assy. was welded prior to the application of Chrome...

It s indeed an inhibitor, applied after welding. All 400F exhausts have it.

Wow. First post.
