76 F Juction Box - How to eliminate?
« on: April 16, 2012, 12:45:49 PM »
Need to get rid of this eye sore on my 76 F.  I believe I read somewhere that this was used because there was not enough room behind the headlight??  If so, how can this be eliminated.  I don't mind extending/changes the harness if needed.  Ideas?

Not sure if Honda used different size buckets. On my 75078K every thing is in the bucket. Maybe look for a deeper bucket. Are you going OEM or custom. I know I have seen some nice customs that are a little deeper but you only have so much room with stock front end. Just depends on what look you are going for as to how much room you have behind the bucket.

Thanks Ken.
Yep, going custom.  I don't mind going with a deeper bucket to get the look I'm after.  What i'm not sure about is how this is wired.  in hindsight, why didn't I take pics!!!  It almost looks like it's a loop.  the pigtail that goes to the box looks almost like a splice in the middle of the harness.  I guess I need to look at the schematics but my pics are pretty blurry on the F model and my eyes seem to fail me close up.  Darn arms are too short.

I'm interested in this too. I want to add an oil cooler to mine and the box is in the way. Someone mentioned 77/78 F wiring harness perhaps. Just not sure what else would need to be done. You could always get a set of bullet connectors and splice in sections to work around the box or get out the soldering gun. Someone find me a 77/78 harness and I'll play with it and come up with an answer.

How about swapping it out for a 550K harness?

The handlebar controls connect in the box, I had to temp wire when my start switch broke and I made jumpers that connected there. The box is crowded but I'm not sure why a k harness wouldn't work. I'm thinking the two bikes have the same components. To make do with the F would require lots of splices.

Sure wish some guys would loan some of these harnesses for comparison purposes. So far I could borrow a F2/F3 and an unknown K. I do have 2 or 3 spare F0/F1 harnesses I can play with.

A K Harness sounds like a good idea!  I'm about 50 miles from Baltimore Cycle salvage.  Mabe I can pick one up on the cheap!

I've got 2 or 3 550 harnesses in the boneyard. Y'all feel like helping ID them?

The headlight buckets on the 75/76 F's are indeed more shallow. Not sure if you could fit a K one on there since the F's have that ridiculous front-end-rack setup as opposed to regular ears.
If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Not sure about the 550's but my 750F harness has a tag attached with the part number on it
