curious pod mod....
« on: April 11, 2012, 09:45:32 AM »
So i dont have a factory airbox for my 750k4...had to go with pods...and am well aware of the downsides primarily revolving around the lack of resistance leading to the requisite main jet upsizing....

heres a thought im trying out currently - spraying the filters on each pod with a few thin layers of silicone spray sealant....

i figure if it does any harm i could just spray a little acetone over them and blow them clear...

anyone else tried this? thoughts?

I would think for the amount of trouble you're going to go through to make that work, let alone keep each carb balanced, it's probably worth the $ to pick up a stock airbox from fleaBay.

I guess you don't really have much to lose.  Just my .02

Sounds like a buy an airbox off of FeEbay kind of idea.

Someone here recently posted that they had just wrapped duck tape around the bottom half of the pods to restrict flow for better drive ability as a temporary fix.  I think it was in the Projects section.  That would be the simple fix and if you find you needed more or less restriction, a simple unwrap and re-wrap with new tape would be easy.

Why not use a little air filter oil on them?

I have K&N's in my Jeeps (2), truck, and on my VTX and oil them as per instructions.  The oil does not restrict air flow.  If it did it would really screw with your mixtures.  K&N's reputation would go to pot to say the least.

I didn't mean K&N's watery "oil", I mean actual air filter oil that has solvents in it that evaporate after the oil is applied, causing the oil to get thick and sticky. This is meant for foam and gause filters typically, and is easy to clean out with mineral spirits or kerosene.

Sounds like pre-60's oil bath breathers.  Messy, and to do it to pods would drip all over your hot engine.  The tape is clean.  But it was only a suggestion.  Let the OP decide what he wants to try.  Nothing is going to fix pods, just help drive ability a bit.

i've used a high dense foam(packing foam) stuffed inside the pods with very good results.

I have tried many different things on pods, but the one that worked well but was ugly as hell(unless its a rat bike)was 7 ounce alluminum cans with holes punctured in the bottoms, laugh but after all the trial and error, they worked.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

I "fixed" my wife's old Kawi LTD like that.  It worked!

I used them filled with steel wool as silencers on my Kwak triple while I got the silencers welded.  ;D

i read a post somewhere where a guy had cut a section of plastic soda bottle to line the inside of the pod in a spiral pattern.........seems that there were pics of this as well.  it was sposed to be a real fix for pods.
