Digital cameras are invaluable for carb dissasembly. Label the parts, keep all the parts for each individual carb together (plastic baggies!) You're probably gonna need gasket kits too. Get the ones from Honda- probably $40-$50. Here's my album of pictures that I hope will help you.

You can also use the parts references off of many an online OEM parts retailer, such as motogrid. Search for CB550 and then select your model.

I just want to thank you again for the link to your images.  I found two errors that I had made and was able to go back and correct them.  I thought I was taking pictures and documenting my progress but now I see how I need to do it.

No problem. I do what I can. Lots of people helped me out on here when I was new. Just make sure you don't put the carb floats in upside-down :)

Now you need to figure out how to look up to reference and order parts with the parts fiche pictures online and how not to get screwed by buying OEM parts on Ebay that you can get from Honda for cheaper.

Just wait until you get that thing started-it really is something to look forward to.

Alright! Are those tires new (ish)?

Looks like you're gonna need a seat cover. If the seat pan isn't rusted out around the rim I would recommend this seller on Ebay for a new seat cover:

Don't know exactly how old the tires are, but the bike has not been TOUCHED (except by mice, rats, and spiders) for about a decade.   I am thinking of how I will be de-rusting the gas tank.  Right now I am leaning toward POR15 and electrolysis.  I have to order the POR15 and wanted to do this over the weekend so I guess I will have to wait...

I've never done the POR, but from what I've read it can take more than a weekend to do it right (so it wont come off). I'm sure someone else will chime in on that. How bad is the rust? Maybe try the old toilet bowl cleaner trick first- it's cheap!

There is a DOT code on the side of the tires to tell you when they were made. But if you know it hasn't been touched in 10 years, then no use looking.

You'll need to slide tires to the top of your priorities. Even tires with good tread, and low visible cracking, are beyond service limit over time. That time being 6 years for poor performance and danger, and 10 years maximum.

What happens is they "outgas' important agents which keep the tires soft and keep the plies bonded together. So even a good looking tire can suffer a catastrophic failure just runing down the road. Regardless of the tread depth.

Be careful.

Thanks for the heads up.  If I get the engine running I might have the bike trucked down to New Jersey where I can really work on it better, and ride it more safely.  I haven't ridden in a long time and don't think I want to start again in New York City...

My 750 sat for a good 20 years and the tank was ruuuuuuusty. I used the washing soda/electrolysis method and sped it up by just emptying the tank each day and restarting the process. It worked very well.

I got a new one for the 75 about a year ago. Can't remember where though. Maybe $30. Can't complain, the original lasted a long time.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

+1 the rubber can get so hard on older tires it's like riding on ice..and then just a little oil or antifreeze on the road and you're down on you're skin  :o Scary stuff !

It's come apart a bit at the seam, so I will see if I can find a replacement.
I've been gathering the proper parts for the tank "de-rusting" and I have a question.  If I get the rest out do I need to coat the tank with something or can I just put some gas in it?

if the tank cleans up and looks solid not pitted much itll be ok unlined,itll pay to knock with say a screw driver handle or some wood to dislodge loose flaky rust,try and use a small dentist type mirror and see inside the tank,if you see pitting id line it.the por takes me at least two weeks.

Gonna add my .02.  POR 15 can be done properly in one day.  You will need a hair dryer or heat gun to facilitate the drying of the tank before you put in the sealer.  It's gotta be bone dry for it to stick properly.  Just did my this past year.  Do not get the sealer on you or anything you care about...

Where are you in NYC?  I'm over in northern NJ.  There are a bunch of us getting together next weekend, but it's mostly 750 guys.  Most of them have much more knowledge than myself and more than willing to help out.   You are more than welcome to come on over, although I know most NYC residents despise crossing the hudson.   I'll send you more info via pm.

I thought they only came with the petcock. My new OEM petcock has it on it.
