Here is the filter.   LINK
That''s really interesting. I wonder why they can get it and its NLA in US?

Seems that's true with a lot of things. I keep forgetting to look at them (DSS).

Ahhh, thanks.  I was searching Filter not Strainer.
When someone gives you a motorcycle to repair, they should REALLY give you a motorcycle and $500.

BB showed two different petcocks for that bike.  That petcock looks just like the one on the 750 accept for his may have two tubes coming out of the bottom instead of my one.

The image in that link looks solid and not a mesh.  Is the mesh missing?

I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

It wouldn't work if it wasn't meshed. Maybe just a bad picture. If you look at the bottom opening you can just see the blue background through it.

I got my filter at the local Honda dealer. He has a 76 750 in the back that belongs to someone that works there. Never hurts to check with them. DSS is my second go to place. Damn the money just load the wagon.

So.....
Finally de-rusted the gas tank, cleaned and set the points and put the carbs back on the bike.  Connected the hoses and cables and STILL NOTHING!
Now the first two carbs on the left leak fuel when I try to kickstart the bike, but not the two on the right.
Also when I first started on this project the lights would come on and the oil light would come on.  Now when I turn the key to the on position no lights or indicators come on.
Any advice would be appreciated, once again.

I really thought it was going to start today...

Ok, so it sounds like you've got your fuel problem halfway sorted- keep working on the overflowing carbs.

But you also have an electrical problem.
It could be a lot of things, but check the obvious things first. I can't remember if you have a voltmeter....if not get a cheap one and start troubleshooting.
-Is your battery dead? Get a charger anyway.
-Check the fuse box- these are notorious for melting, make sure the correct fuses are there too.
-Make sure all the wires are connected in the headlight spaghetti, under the tank and by the electrical components under the left side cover.
-Check the grounds on the bike.

If you have a non-original ignition switch, i.e. EMGO, it could be that too.

So many options for what's wrong....but just take your time to sort it out. Walk away for a while if you get frustrated.

Thanks for the response.
Ignition is original.
Battery is brand new, but I put a charger on it for a little while today.
The fuse box is a mess, but I know nothing about this stuff.  I was hoping to tackle the other problems and then start with the electrical but I guess it will have to be addressed.
Not sure how to check the grounds on the bike I will start looking into that.
I've got a voltmeter but to be honest I was never all that good at math and science so it just looks like something from Star Trek.  I guess I have a lot more learning to do.
I just want to hear that engine run so I know there is hope...
Thanks

Oh...there is always hope. Money and time...money and time.

There are what....two grounds on the bike? One underneath the tank and one by the battery box. just make sure the metal is clean, the wires are ok and there is good contact (metal to metal) between the ring terminal and the frame.

The voltmeter you set to Direct current- Volts (VDC) measure between a wire and ground (exposed metal) and you should get 12ish volts. Try it on the battery and see what you get

I checked the battery and it reads 12 volts.  Oddly I checked the old battery I had removed from the bike and it reads 5, I wonder if it usable?

I removed the fuse holder (sorry for the terminology) and it looks like it is a mess, and clues?  Also there is a where switch on connected to it from the side panel.  Mysterious...

What the hell is all that? Bottom pic, nothing on the bike needs a 30 amp fuse.
I'm guessing that switch is anti theft, just cuts the power from the battery. What wires is it connected to?

Holy Jebus! What is that?? Looks like those incorrect fuses are shorting out too.

Clean the fuse clips shiny, and get the correct fuses in there. Also, what's under that electrical tape?

Oh wait...what is that switch for? Another kill switch? When you turned the ignition key try flipping the switch and see if your lights et al. come on (but get the right fuses first!)

I'd be looking for another fuse box that hasn't been bastardized and possibly cooked.
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !

I'd say, as long as it isn't melted, use it. But lose the switch after you find out what it's been jury rigged for.

Put it back on the bike and tried the switch in both positions but same results.  I guess I will clean that fuse box up as good as I can.  Trying to figure out what fuses I need...

With the one carburetor over flowing I guess I am going to need to remove them again and see what is going on.  My neighbors think I am crazy and sit around saying I will never get it started (in different languages.)

You need two 7 amp and one 15 amp fuses.
Please tell us what coloured wires the switch is connected to.

On black? Just stops the power going through then. Look under that tape, the wires may have separated.

Removed the tape Wires are wrapped tightly together.  I've retaped them, but if I just want to remove this switch do I just disconnect the Black Wires, or disconnect them from the switch and attach them to each other?  Maybe the switch is broken.

This is my first attempt at motorcycle repair.  I've inherited a '74 CB550 from a neighbor that has not been touched in about 8 years.  I've taken the carburetors off and given them a light cleaning, sprayed some WD-40 into the cylinders and let sit for couple of days, rinsed out the gas tank, replaced the spark plugs, and installed a new battery.
I know there is a lot more to be done and what I have done should be more thorough, but I just want to see if it will even show some signs of life before investing too much time and money.
I just added a little bit of gasoline and tried kickstarting the bike but nothing happened.  Any suggestions?

You need to do a compression check first.
When you say you took the carbs off and gave them a "light cleaning"
What does that mean?

After 8 years of sitting the carbs would need new float needles and seats since it is the CB550. Check the float heights with the new needles installed.
It would need to have the idle jets removed and cleaned. Look through them and make sure you can see daylight through them.
All of the passageways need to have carb cleaner sprayed through them.
PROTECT YOUR EYES!!!
New fuel filter.
Check the ignition timing to make sure it does not need new ignition points and condensers. I would just buy new ones.
Then you might try to start it.
