I just got my tensioner back from the polisher. The cam block's, cam, and camshaft chain are now ready for install. The head has already been torqued two times and is complete up to this point. My question is should I install the tensioner before or after I install the cam, chain and sprocket. I plan on reading the multiple posts on this subject when I get over to the shop. Just thinking this would gimme a head start. Thanx

Make sure the adjusting block and the rod that goes into the tensioner is clean and moves freely. I am sure you had the adjusting block and the spring out for polishing. Polish the shaft and make sure the bore does not have any corrosion. You can install the tensioner after the cam is installed .

Whether you "should" leave it off or not, is up to you. If you put it on first, be sure the plunger is locked in the full retracted into the spring position.

I suggest leaving it off till the last.
