Stuck gas cap vent???
« on: June 17, 2006, 07:44:47 AM »
...greetings SOHC hedz.  I have a 76 550F I'm cleaning up.  The tank has been full of a 5/1 mollassis mixture all week, and I starting draining it this morning.  I will drain for about a minute and then stop.  When I open the cap I get a vaccum pop, so it sounds like the cap vent is clogged.  How do I clear this???

Here's my only tip & it probably won't pertain to what you're doing because hopefully you're not as foolish as I.

Don't bead blast your cap.  That plagued me to no end as tiny glass particles are practically impossible to clean out of the cap chamber, pass right through a normal fuel filter, and clog up carbs like nobody's business.

I had the same problem when I put Kreem coat in my tank.  There's a small vent hole in the cap, I think it's right in the center on the '76.  I poked it through with some wire and works ok now.

...poked around in the vent cap with what I think was not much success.  Not sure how far I should be able to push a wire into the hole.  Either way I didn't seem to push the wire "through" anything...I'll keep at it...
