Like father like son
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:50:30 AM »
Hi all!

This is my first post but I have been visiting this site a lot over the winter. I bought my fathers 75 CB550 last Sept and have been excited to work on it over the winter and getting it ready for this summer. We had a little bit of time to ride last year but this year will be much more plentiful.

My dad purchased this golden oldy back in 75 new from the dealer. I rode it a bit in HS but he kept it and has been riding it off and on over the past few years. He bought a bigger more modern bike last summer and I told him if he ever wanted to sell it to call me. Well that happened and I'm now the proude owner of an EXCELLENT condition 550  ;D.

So far I have tried clubman bars (too back breaking!), drag bars, new LED signals in front, new shocks, rebuilt front caliper, about 2 gallons of degreaser and a few bags of 000 steel wool. I will try adn post some pics before and after. Future plans are LED rear signals, replace with lower profile tail light, bar end mirrors and replace fork springs and oil. I'm trying to get brave enough to do a full carb clean myself....but it runs fine except for the typical "flat spot" these are common with. Only 8K original miles!

Thanks for all of the help thus far, and for all in the future :)!

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
