I need 4 sets of std. bore 1978F2 rings......
« on: June 07, 2006, 12:27:27 PM »
I've already tried Silver Spares(they have 1 set), CMSNL, Western Hills. They are discountinued from Honda. Figures they are the only friggin 61mm bore rings to use a 1.2mm top ring..... just for 2 years!  79/80 750 DOHC use the same 2nd and oil rings but the top ring is 1mm. I'll have to call Total Seal otherwise. F2's are a nightmare sometimes ::)

Mike, let me know if you need anything else for that engine. I've got one on the stand and will be using only the towers/rockers. Nice cam with only 12 grand on it on the shelf as well.

Could you replace with a set of pistons and rings from a different year 750?  Something a little more common?

I would have to replace the head as well (which I just reconditioned). F2 pistons have a higher dome to compensate for the larger combustion chamber.

Sean,  I might need your cam.  depends upon finding rings.

It's on the shelf if you need it John. Good luck with the rings.

I know this probably won't help but KaceyF2 was selling his .25 over pistons and rings a while back(UK). Might still have'em.

Mike,
The 75 F used the thicker rings and so did the 76 F1 initially. From Eng-no 2551568 onwards the later F1 pistons used the thinner rings Part number 13011-392-004.
I am not sure if this is the number you're looking for

G/day Mike. I had the same problem about 18 months ago. I searched everywhere for a standard set of rings for weeks. I was
ready to give up and go for over size pistons and rings, which were available, when a set of standard pistons and rings came up on ebay. I made sure that I won that auction! This story doesn't help you at all but it might make you feel better knowing that you aren't the only one that has had trouble. Good Luck, Pat

Mike  - I was at Custom Cycle here in Saskatoon this morning and inquired about standard rings for 1978 CB750 F2s.  The parts guy says they are available from the distributors in both Toronto and Vancouver and would take about a week to get here.   Part number 13011-392-004   $34.06Cdn/set
