Where can I find a 530 16-tooth front sprocket?
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:31:46 AM »
I think JT Sprockets makes one but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Anybody know where I can source these from?

Go to http://www.yamatoyamotorsports.com/

Call if you need to, and they can get you all set up for front and rear sprockets for your Honda CB750.

None of those from Z1 are correct. Yamatoya doesn't have one listed but I'll call anyway. Anyone else?

Here is what I found. JTF288 is the fitment and .16 is the number of teeth. The 16 is a little hard to find why not go for a 17T?

You are not going to get a 16T sprocket.

The 1978 CB750's had the internal 4th and 5th transmission ratios were higher.

You can get 15T,17T,19T   ....starting to see a pattern? IT is because of the number of teeth on the rear sprocket.

Cycle-X sells a 19 tooth. It sure must be close to touching the engine case all the time. You would have to watch the adjustment of the chain like a hawk.

17 would be very low. Stunt bike low?

Running a 10mm offset rear sprocket from CycleX that only comes in 46-teeth, so 17/46 (2.71) was the closest ratio I could get to the stock 15/41 (2.73)

Sounds like a 17T would be the ticket over a 16? 16/46 = 2.875 might be a little boggier compared to stock (2.73)

Oh.. do I have it backwards? I want less boggy! :) So 19?

oops sorry! I might be confused here, math isn't my strong suit  :o . I had to redo the ratio difference on my bike again and found my mistake. The smaller the ratio number the boggier your performance. But I would think you would want to stay as close to stock ratio number that you can since the Honda engineers designed the bike that way.

Here is what I did:

Went from stock 17T front, 37T rear (2.176)

to: 17T front 36T rear (2.118) It's not much of a change but I notice about a 400 rpm drop or a 4MPH rise at Hiway speeds roughly 6000 rpms. Any more and I am sure I would notice a more sluggish take off around town. going too much the other way and at hiway speeds you will always be searching for that higher non-existant gear. And your mileage will drop.

Smaller front and/or larger rear = quicker acceleration. I'd be careful going with anything smaller than the 17 front that was stock on the early F's. Chain bind can = chain break. "Cases-in-point" would be the early 750's that snapped chains and tore the #$%* outta expensive cases. They changed the sprockets after all those expensive warranty claims. Generally 1 tooth on the front = 3 on the back so going down 1 on the front is approx = to going up 3 on the back as far as acceleration. Your back is DOWN 2 to 46 so that's better for less rpm at highway speeds or it's about like a 17 and 2/3 tooth front sprocket. I see why you'd like to find a 16 to offset that but I'd be careful with a 16!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

You are not going to get a 16T sprocket.

The 69s came with a 16 tooth sprocket I bet they are still out there. Smaller front or larger rear wil have less top speed but more bottom end.
