From what's been described so far, my first thoughts are dirty pilot/idle circuit.......I probably missed it, but did you thoroughly inspect and clean the carbs ??....beyond that, the next thing I'd consider is poor spark.

Seems like I'm on the rich side now, and I cleaned all of that very very well when I pulled the carbs a week ago. Check out the pics and vids in my new thread and tell me what you think w1sa, I believe I'm moving in the right direction.

When you cleaned the carbs did you clean the emulsion tubes? If these are clogged it will run rich

Yup, I cleaned everything in and outside the carbs. Ran copper wire through the little holes and passages to make sure they were clear, soaked everything. I'm convinced it's more a tuning issue than a carb issue in general at this point. I may also have a bad valve seal on one of my cylinders that isn't helping things.
