Agreed.

He had a much greater influence on his generation, and subsequent generations, of music than many people give him credit for, but it was always apparent that he didn't care about the recognition.  He just does what he loves.

He was full of music. When these trail blazers die it sure saddens me, partly because it's a reminder we're not getting younger. I know Levons career didn't end when The Band did, but when I think of him, I think of them. Three of them are now gone, wow.

Maybe that's what it is for me too. Maybe not being part of the youthful cutting edge music scene means that I don't know of any modern drummers/singers who have the same appeal.

I think however that what I really liked about Levon and the whole group, the Band was how much they were team players. The sum was bigger than the individual parts. I didn't really understand that until I heard Levon, Rick Danko, Garth Husdon, and Robbie Robertson singly. They were/are all wonderful musicians, but it's hard to tell how the Band songs came to be as none of the members, including Robertson, who took exclusive song writing credit for many of the Band songs, ever wrote tunes that were as memorable and appealing as the Band originals repertoire. I guess I always hoped they'd get back together.
