Well, I've got my 75 Cb400f...which I've always wanted to convert to a RC161 / RC172 type thing...nothing replica mind you...just the 4 into 4 exhaust with a cr750 type fairing (slightly smaller are available to fit the 400f) or a Drixton fairing that was used cb350 cb450 twins which will also fit 400f. SO...along with a cafe seat thing that will fit over the rear of the seat and detach when I dont have a passenger...I've acquired the appropriate CB350f headers and was going to weld up some stainless 17" long cones that I got on ebay cheap...I dont think I want to just run them open as it would be too loud and I think it would require alot of tuning to get running right...anyone with experiance there?? I've thought about getting straight pipe baffles and putting them at the end of the header pipes, does anyone know what the inside diameter of the cb350f pipes are??...and what do you guys think, will the straight pipe baffles bring the noise level down to an acceptable level...and perhaps negate any carb tuning??...I've got a nice pretty stock bike I know...it's just that I've always wanted to do this...and now I have almost everything together...and I got the bike for next to nothing...I just dont want it to turn into a fiasco, where it never runs as sweetly again...

In that case, perhaps it might be better to start with a ratty 350F?  Or will you be using a different 4-4 exhaust for the project?

No...I have the 350f headers, but I dont want to put the CB350f mufflers on it....hopefully ending up with something like this, but flatter because I want to keep the pass pegs, etc.

I highly recommend leaving that CB400F O.E.stock exhaust on it for Best all-around performance..guy's have tried swapping in different mufflers and exhaust's on the CB400F in the past when I worked on them;they looked different and sure sounded different..but to be honest they NEVER ran as nice as the O.E. stock system for the CB400F;for one thing they'd lose All they're low-end power and have to rev the p*%& out of it just to get off the line from a start and prematurely wear out their clutch in the process. You'll see.

I put an emgo muffler on it...as the old one rusted out...and it's like whisper quiet now and runs the same as before...I suppose I could leave the stock exhaust on it...I was afraid it might not be a simple thing...and with the baffles in it might help...damn...decisions decisions...I suppose I could try it and if not quite rght just throw the stock one back on...

I suppose if you're just after the "look" then you can experiment..;it's a Big project to get the exhaust "tuned" correctly to the carb jetting...save you're originals. If it was me..and I was after performance to keep it as trouble free in the jetting Dept. as could be, I'd consider just going stock and maybe trying to find a replica O.E. muffler from DSS...
What type of exhaust's were you considering ?

Well, i have four stainless megaphone cones..that's it...there is no muffler in them at all, thats why i was thinking baffles for straight pipes at the end of the header pipes. I was just going to bolt up the 350 f header pipes and just add whatever straight pipe to them and then weld the megaphones.
