Center Stand Envy?
« on: June 10, 2012, 02:05:15 PM »
A first for me: Couple on a nice new HD and I (750K8) were stopped for gas and we were admiring each others bikes. They commented on my center stand and missing it on their brand new Harley. That didn't even come with a tool kit. Turned out they also had a CB550 same year as mine, being worked on. So they knew how handy those items could be. Funny to recall it now, especially since mine was on its side stand for the gas (less effort, but mine has both). What random strangers talk about.

As someone else said about today "It doesn't matter what you ride, as long as you're ridin"

It sure was "nice ridin" today.

Ha!  I cut the center stand off o mine.  I was beginning to think I was going to regret it, but then I bout a rear stand and front parking chock.  Still, I bet there is going to be a time when I'm out on the road when I'm going to want a center stand, and...  oh well!

Taking the center stand away was a big mistake in my opinion. I just bought an aftermarket center stand for my wife's Honda Shadow ACE. Big difference in ease of doing things.

I took mine off as it wouldn't fit the exhaust but left the clamps on so whenever I need it on the stand in the shop i can just slip a long bolt through and I'm up on the stand in about 20 seconds.

Just talking with my buddy over the weekend, as we put Phaedrus up on the centerstand: "Couldn't put my Harley (ex-harley, has an FJ now) on a centerstand if it had oone"

That's the point, long heavy stretched out cruisers can't hardly handle a centerstand, just not feasible. Some Jap cruiser wannabees had them, but for the most part a harley or a Shadow...no where to put it and too heavy anyway. Or too heavy in the wrong places.

I find the centerstand on my GoldWing very handy. As it makes cleaning the rear rim very easy. Just lay on the ground and spin the rim as you go.
It is also very nice when it comes to changing oil too.
I laugh at the HD boys when they say there bike is too big for a centerstand! Well it isn't as big as a Goldwing and we have em!
+1 for Honda engineering again  ;)

I hope you kick started it just to rub it in more! ;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

My GL1500 is actually easier to get on the centerstand than my CB750. Better leverage.

Definitely on the GoldWing stand. I didn't mean to say the cruisers were too big. Its just the way the chassis and exhaust pipes are oriented. Plus it spoils the "look".

I couldn't live without one except on a track bike.
