this has got to be wrong... oil adapter

ok I just got my ebay vintage oil adapter in the mail. THe seller said it was for an sohc cb750, and had a lockhart radiator that he ditched. BUt I don't see how this could work... am I missing something or did the seller mis label what he was selling??

Heres what I got...


First off, the adapter center hole sits quite loosely on the motor. Notice the 1/8" gap between the adapter hole and the oil galley...


Second, my oil bolt threads into the female end of the adapter bolt, the the male threads of the adapter bolt are much too large for the engines oil galley threads.


Third, The adapter bolt wouldn't hold the adapter anyway, because the entire thing is smaller than the hole....



SO am I missing something or do I need to package this thing back up?  It seems I could use it if I had the proper bolt?

The adaptor bolt is quite difficult to track down. I bought one for my '80 cb650 that the hole is at least the right size, but no adaptor bolt for it. My solution was to get a '83-'85 cb650 filter cover because it is shorter and just use my original bolt, which is longer than the 750 bolt. I would still like to find the correct adaptor bolt, but am not counting on it. I don't think my solution will work in your case though. I think someone on the site makes (or made) adaptors for the 750s you may be able to find something when the search is working.

 Measure the diameter of the hole and thickness..maybe we can make one..

I've got a couple of adapters and bolts I machined myself; one's on my 550 and the other's a spare. I would sell you the bolt but I doubt that the designs are the same. Terry would probably machine one for you for a decent price. Or just send the damned thing back.

The filter end of the bolt would be male and have imperial threads.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

Yeah I sent him an email. Ill see what he says.  If i get a bolt made, this old setup will end up costing more than a new one.  I actually pm'd terry asking if he still made them, and didnt hear anything back. I might try again as I dont completely trust the system( or that I clicked the send button).

 check if seller maybe has other nut....  that looks like a good adapter, some are worse looking. if you need one, you decide what is worth doing next.
 I am not a fan of the spin-ons.

 costing more than a new one ?? did not know they make new ones.

I took a chance and bought this on ebay: 1986 YAMAHA FZ600 OIL COOLER ADAPTOR BOLT

It is a discontinued part.
This is OEM information for the part:

If you cannot find one on ebay, I found this forum with reproduction ones advertised:

Their part number is : HCP3165. it is about 2/3 of the way down the page for around $20.
I did a test fir on my spare engine case, without the filter element, and it seems to work fine. I have yet to test it with the filter element, but if it will not go together, I can grind a little length off the head to make it shorter.

I think the adapter bolt the OP has is for a DOHC CB750.

Rigid you would need this adaptor bolt for a spin on car type filter on our sohc motors the short threads go to the filter I don't know the Wixs # off hand.It is a common filter but orange would not go with my bike. ;D
