Greg, if you had your druthers, where would you like to ride? Of course, you will need to document it, so we can all feel like we are riding along. 8)

Here's what I had in mind.  Very, very scenic and amazing roads that are like riding a roller coaster.  And you know I like to take pictures. ;)

So I've been talking with Greg, and getting closer to nailing down some dates to move GZ along. The Montana leg of the trip is scheduled for 7/7, and the Dakotas portion scheduled for 7/14. I can leave after the 4th of July, say around the 6th, and get GZ into Montana by the 8th, or so. I can't head very far North because I have to turn around and get back to California, but I am flexible as to where a possible meet-up with the next rider of the rally will be. Southern Dakota's?

Though I am flexible on dates I am constrained by total miles I can do. Greg has posted a map of a good ride through eastern Oregon, and Washington. I would like to include this in my ride. It's probably the best bit of riding and worth the whole journey for me, but adds a bit to my overall. Here's a rough map of what it looks like so far:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Walnut+Creek,+CA&daddr=Nampa,+ID+to:44.97179,-116.8583+to:Lewiston,+ID+to:Billings,+MT&hl=en&geocode=FYlnQgIdvW-5-CnzpXsZdPSPgDFswwMgl0lu4A%3BFe1gmAId-mEN-Skp8ZdOaUyuVDFSSjJxY4YZrg%3BFQ43rgIdROII-Sl9lq8F_i-kVDGbQsTmM-Gedw%3BFZkDxAIdG7QG-Sm3kKPyB6yhVDEupGTjOdi_Wg%3BFfaYugIdLmmI-SmXnfqIiG9IUzFQtXnx1FY1Nw&aq=0&oq=Billings&sll=44.512176,-116.213379&sspn=4.363413,8.206787&mra=ls&via=2&ie=UTF8&ll=42.393145,-115.31929&spn=8.97339,13.63724&t=m&output=embed

That's 1500 miles one way, and I just cant do that much and get home, so some mods will need to be done. Just posting it to get the discussion rolling as to who can take GZ and where's a good spot to meet

EDIT: You should be able to move the map around to see the whole picture

It is time to check in here.  Lefty is getting bored riding with me back and forth to work.  Next week just after the 4th we are hitting the road no matter what.  It would be nice to have a plan.  Between Scondon and I, we can get it either to west of the Cascades or to Montana.  But we need to hear from someone who will take it from there.

I am leaning toward Montana by way of NE Oregon and SE Washington to keep things more or less on schedule.  Billingstitan and timidhawk, you guys are in Billings.  How much riding do you want to do?  Can you take Lefty east of there?  If so, we can get him to you.  How about Motorfist in Idaho Falls?  Are you interested in an incursion into Montana for a handoff and then carrying Lefty eastward?  There is still an opportunity to get in on the relay and have some fun.  But we need to get moving.

I'm with ya, Greg, and still ready to roll after the 4th. But just so everyone reading is clear on where we are at:

There is no one to give Lefty to. Greg and I can ride around, but Lefty would just end up left on the road somewhere(not really) unless a volunteer materializes that can get him to the Northern leg.

Oh Sean wish I could take that ride with you.  I am going to be in Nevada/Utah on my 550 at the end of July and would certainly have made that ride (that is if you could stand me for another relay... ;))  Next year.

Eastern side of the Sierras is an awesome place to be on a bike, Mooshie. Enjoy yourself, and yes, looking forward to next year :)

Doesn't look like we have any takers for Lefty in Montana/Dakota's. If FunnyJimmy wants to accept delivery from Brown, and then ship him off to someone in the Northern leg that would get him moving again. Or just straight to a Northern rider? I'm out of ideas on how to help at this point:(

Sean,

Not much more you and Greg can do. Take GZ for a ride and have a great time. Too bad we don't have any members in PNW area. Hoping FunJimmy has a good ride too.

As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

The whole hope of riding up to Idaho and around with Greg and Lefty was that there would be someone to give Lefty to after we were done. Seems there is no way to avoid UPS at this time, and a 2,000 mile trip would be just to visit and ride around with Greg, and not necessarily move the rally forward.I'd love to take the ride with Greg that he has mapped out, but it could be better done at a time that is not rushed for us both.

If someone materializes between now and the 4th I'll still drop everything and hit the road

I have some PMs out to our Montana and eastern Idaho members to see what they can do.  The next couple of days will tell the tale.

I'd love to take the ride with Greg that he has mapped out, but it could be better done at a time that is not rushed for us both.

Those are my thoughts too.  Give me a call when you get a chance.

Greg,
It's entirely your decision whether to ride up and touch OR and WA then ship, or you can ship the baton from where you are. I'll support whichever you decide.  8)

Thanks.  We're going to have some fun and I owe it to Lefty for being so patient perched on the Windjammer this last month on the commutes.  I'll get some pix of a great route.  If you could help with getting it worked out to where he goes next it would be greatly appreciated.

1+, especially for this year's relay. We made history last year, and this year was more about having fun without the stress. Greg, Sean, you guys do what you want. Maybe meet somewhere in the middle? It would be a shame if you didn't get a chance to carry Lefty, Sean. :(

I could likely get Lefty form Mountain Home to Bozeman but thats about as far as I can go with him given my work schedule.  I know thats not the route you have planned at all.  I could also do Idaho Falls to Missoula.  Sorry I am not more help guys :(

Motor,

Any mileage and help is more than none! It'd be great to have you included. TLBranth has returned from a lengthy ride and is ready to help GZ. This may work!! At some potential "end" point GZ may need to be UPS'd to the next rider. Hoping not. If no one could connect with you then that UPS'er could be you. We always have westondc in NE that is a serious rider.

Sean and Greg - light at the end of the tunnel perhaps? You guys can't sit around waiting and hoping much longer. Isn't fair to you. maybe, just maybe we'll have some more riders!  :)
