New cam for my 76 CB750F
« on: April 19, 2012, 07:45:10 AM »
The cam in my 76 CB750F is worn and needs replacement.
If I am correct I understood that all CB750 SOHC cams will fit on the bike but not all will run smooth.

What cams can I use for my bike? Currently I have two possible replacements: K7 and F2.
It's a stock engine CB750E-2531459.

Thanks!

You need to know more than I know about this, but I wanted to get subscribed. I would be suspicious that the 77/78 cams are what you would not want to use.

Your 76 is more like 76 and earlier bikes, and i would think all those cams would work and run fine.

Changes in the later bikes, esp in the F2 were greater.  Maybe the 77/78Ks are still OK/compatible.

The K7 cam will work in your F1 engine as it’s the closest match. To break down 750 compatible cams, the part numbers provide a strong clue:

14101-300-020: K0 to K6

14101-392-000:  F0 / F1 and K7 / K8

14101-410-000: F2 / F3

The K7 and K8 is supposed to be identical to the F/F1 cam except the manual has it listed as being timed 5o differently 40o vs 35o. I think I'd try the F2/F3 myself but have not attempted.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

I would take an F2 cam off someones hands, they come highly recommended for mild performance use.

Thank you all for the replies! Still not really sure what cam to go for... I think I stick with the cam that looks best/minimum ware.
