Getting motorcycle license in ohio?
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:07:37 PM »
Hey can anyone fill me in about getting motorcycle license in ohio? I've heard it's just a written test but I don't know. What are the consequences if you get popped riding without one? It happened to my uncle I could just ask him I guess lol

The written test is just for your "temps" which has riding limitations like, no riding at night, must wear helmet, no passengers, and no highway ridding. To get a license with full priveleges you must take a riding course test.

hope this helps

That sounds very similar to Washington State. Plus if you get caught riding without an endorsement they will ticket you $400 and tow your bike (prolly for another $200 - $300).

Yup, Jaydem is right, however, if you're even thinking of getting your licence this season schedule online as soon as you get your permit.  The appointments fill up quickly and they offer the most horrible times (it literally makes a bank look like a 24 hour establishment).  I (fortunately) waslked in and caught the most apathetic and bored cop in the office who allowed me to take the test then and there.  The riding test consists of an acceleration and braking test, a u turn test, a cone weave and maybe some combination of the three.

I just want to give the Basic Rider Course a plug from MSF.  Good stuff, and in most states they give you a voucher for your license when you complete it and pass their test.

As said above, it's a written test for the temps with the restrictions stated above.  You have to ride (or at least have) the temps for 6 months before you can take the riding test for the full license, unless you take the safety course, which, as stated above, will get you your license.  Plus, if your bike isn't quite legal, they provide a bike and a helmet.  I'm looking to schedule now that I've heard it's only $25 and my insurance will give me a discount if I take it.

This so much.

The MSF courses in Ohio ARE sufficient to count as your skills test. There is NO reason not to do the safety course.
