Who made this swingarm?
« on: April 20, 2012, 11:47:19 AM »
Not having much luck with this in the tech forum, figured I'd try it here:

Got this nifty swingarm in a multi-directional swap deal.  I basically traded an old Evinrude outboard engine that I found in the alley for this.  Any ideas on manufacturer?

Pretty sure that is an early model version made by OVERracing Japan.

Toxic is correct in the other thread. It is a Cal-Fab.

That swingarm is made by " CAL-FAB " of California, which is no longer in buisness.  :(    A stock Suzuki arm has extra bracing across the backside of the box section.  Also it has a large " X " on top of the box section.

Better yet, i found a pic of a GS 1100 arm.........

Well i found out that the stock GS1100 swingarm is  1 1/2  inches longer than a stock KZ900-KZ1000 swingarm.  So what is the lenght of a Kawi swingarm ?   ???   Hell i don't know.   :(    Another search comming on............ ::)

Ok, i found a post that stated that a stock KZ1000 swingarm is 20 1/4 inches from the center pivot axle to the center of the rear axle mount.  Don't hold me to this as this is second hand info.  So that would make the GS1100 aluminum arm lenght  21 3/4 inches in lenght.

As far as I know the GS swingarms use  a bigger diameter on thr pivot bolt, so you have to sleeve down, or accurately drill your frame..

The GS swingarms use the same size pivot through bolt as the 1973-1980  KZ900-KZ1000's  which is 20mm.   ;)

                   Note;  That is the diameter of the bolt ( 20mm )  as for length..... I don't have a clue.   ::)   ;)    YOU LOOK IT UP !    ;D ;D ;D

Bert, what are ya looking for ?   A chain guard or chain guide ?  Or both ?   I don't remember the gs1100's having a chain guide but i could be wrong.......maybe.   ::)   LOL !   Look it up on ebay and see if there's anything like that.   ;)

Ok Bert, here's a couple of chain guards on ebay........ http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=gs1100+chain+guard+&_cqr=true&_nkwusc=gs1100+chain+gard&_sop=10&_rdc=1

You might try CRAIGSLIST or some local motorcycle salvage yards.  ;)  As for a guide, they do not exist.   :(   You could always make your own.  ;)

Hey RR,

Just some minor 'fiddling' with the width of the pivot and to make it accept the pivotbolt. At the lower shock mounts it is as wide as the F2. For making it work in a K frame you need to alter the upper shock mounts Take'm outwards.
Also the depth of the swing is based on a 17" rear, so a 18" will touch the swing when in max front position of chainadjustment.

Cheers, Rob

Thanks Bert,

I checked with a rear wheel with (new) Dunlop TT100. It just didn't touch. Looking at your pic there is enough space.

Cheers, rob
