That's the original pump with the phenolic impeller. They were troublesome. The replacements have steel impellers and are better sealed. If you replace it now, you'll save yourself a lot of hassle and expense later.

So am I. I have the frame primed, but I have just been busy every weekend. Last weekend, it rained on me the whole time. Saturday I am driving to Oklahoma to get parts for the bike. Sunday, I hope to get some paint on it. Then I have new bearings for the steering head and I have the forks back together, so they can go on. Maybe that will jump start me into working on it more. I got a little burned out on it when I couldn't get the paint down and I was missing a few parts on the carb rebuild.

I understand the burned out part. I am a bit burned out on bikes. I walk by the bikes in the garage and hardly even look at them anymore. Now I am playing with my '04 Z71. A little not a lot.

I get it too. I have been so frustrated by my inability to sort my poor idle that I have only put a few hundred miles on my bike this year, choosing instead to drive and work on my MGB.

That is a rad little car! I just picked up the exhaust. Had to drive up to Tulsa to get it, stayed the night there with family and then came back Sunday. that took up the whole weekend so no further progress.

One cool thing, and I will post pics later, I got a SnapOn roll away with a small topper. The box and all of the tools belonged to my grandfather who owned a gas station and garage in Jersey back in the 50's 60's and early 70's. He died when I was just a kid, so it is really cool that my uncle gave me those tools. He never used them, and none of his kids work on stuff so he thought I would get some use out of them. Every drawer is packed full. Tons of wrenches and ratchets and tools that I can't identify. Most are ASE, so I think I need to buy an old American car just to use them all.

OK, so the hardnose paint is a big flop. It is leaving tiny air bubbles everywhere. It is supposed to self level. I will look at it tomorrow and hope for the best. I think I may end up stripping it and repainting it with regular paint.

Been quite a while since I updated this. Here are a few things I have done. Finally getting back into the grove of working on it.

Engine is in the frame. The wheels haven't been cleaned and painted yet.

Dig that cruise control

The glass is a little fogged

Controls look pretty clean, jusy hit them with some #0000 steel wool.

Trying to get a feel for what it is going to look like.
She FIRED!!! I used the car batter hooked up via jumper cables. Put a little gas in the carbs using a funnel thing with a fuel hose on it and I started kicking it over.

BAM! I had the crazy cruise control set on so I didn't have to hold it. When she fired, it was LOUD!

I quickly cranked the throttle closed and killed the engine. But it started and that was my main goal. Now to get the exhaust on it and the radiator cleaned up and put on! Starting to get excited!

I am waiting on exhaust gaskets. It is too loud to start without the exhaust on. Once it is in place, I may hook up the brakes and see if it will get me down the road.

Then I have to pull the wheels, strip and polish the rims and get new tires.

Looking good. Same exhaust gaskets as the 750. Just use the old ones and throw some headers on it. You would be surprised how quiet it is with just headers.

I would if I had them. The PO took off the exhaust and tossed the gaskets. They were on there finger tight when I got it. New ones should be here soon.

They didn't have them at my local napa when I checked, so I ordered them and an air filter from parts n more. Wish they were here, just bled the front brakes and ready to make it go down the road. It still has the old tires, but I am only wanting to go up the street and back and check how it runs. Then I can hit my dad up for tire money and get the wheels stripped and polished.

Thanks. He has done a lot for me over the years, so I want to do something really great for him. I hope he gets out and rides the piss out of it when it's done.
