Same cabinet as I have.  Its a biotch getting to some of those screws when putting it together.  One of those tub vacuums you can get at Walmart work well to clear the dust, if you use that type.  That Black Beauty is messy.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

Stopped by the store and bought some CLR and these things



Before:



After just a few minutes (like 2 or 3) of scrubbing with CLR and rinsing with water.  I air dried it with my air hose.



The bottle brush is able to get behind the pulleys.  I will get it cleaned better once I get the engine out.

Got a little sick last weekend, so no progress.  I did get the new springs for my belt tensioner, some fork seals and some other bits.  I got a nice used set of brakes, and I am getting them all sorted out. 

Today, I pulled the carbs and while they are not pristine, they are probably better than any set I have seen pulled from a bike that has been sitting outside this long.

I had to fight, and I mean really fight to get the rear brake pedal off.  It would not move by hand and i had to move it up and down with a rubber mallet.



There is the post.  The cotter pin is rusted in there. I am sure I can drill it out.

I got a few things done today anyway.  I have been bead blasting the lower removable frame peice, but I think I am going to try to find a place locally to take the full frame for blasting.

I wish it were that easy!  Been sandblasting off and on all day and haven't even touched the frame.

I would leave the frame for a shop that does that kind of thing often, blasting tubing can be a pain to do.  What with flash rusting in humid environments...
Lots of powdercoat shops do it and it is to their satisfaction then.  But if you are going to paint it yourself, then you get to have that fun.

Good progress, just remember, it was a project bike and your dad will love all the hard work you put into it!

Nice work mate, subscribed. Sandblasters are great fun and save hours of scrubbing, just make sure you totally degrease everything beforehand, and thoroughly clean the parts again after blasting. I didn't once, and it cost me an engine rebuild. Ouch! ;D

Once I had the radiator and carbs off of it, it only took 20 minutes to remove.  Just unbolt everything, have a jack under it to hold it, remove the frame section from the left side and pull it out left. Did it all by myself.

Good idea mate, I've only blasted one frame in my driveway with a suction blaster, and that really did suck. Never again.......... ;D

Well, after thinking on it for a few days, I have decided not to have the frame powder coated.  That is money I could use elsewhere.  I will strip it down with a combo of paint stripper and wire wheel. Then I will use Por 15 Hardnose paint.  http://www.por15.com/HARDNOSE-PAINT/productinfo/HNGB/

It is supposed to be the bomb, and it saves money that could be better used on other parts.

Now, trouble with my air compressor is slowing me down.  I have a cheap 20 gal unit, and one day I will get something better. But for now, I have to figure out how to fix this.


I pulled that part off, but it is actually part of the pressure switch.   I need to find a new pressure switch.



Maybe someplace local will have one, I don't want to have to order online and hope it works.

Got some work done on the frame today.  Bought Aircraft stripper and a brush.  Here is what is left of the brush.



and here is where the frame is now.  I will wire-wheel the rest of it over the next week, while waiting for the Por 15 to arrive.

I wish I could.  I am going down to Rockers V Mods right after, I don't think I can make 2 trips in 2 weeks apart.  But who knows.  Maybe I can swing it.

Glad you were able to get it fixed up. Adding a large secondary air tank will help immensely with sandblasting. Your gonna wear it out quick on this bike.  Be sure you degrease the frame with a good degreaser so you don't run into paint problems.  I like POR's engine paint kit, used it on my 66 Volvo 122S motor and once it cured, took a while, it was very durable and kept its gloss. It wouldn't be good for an aircooled motor as it goes on pretty thick but it has excellent coverage and is a very high solids paint.

I had mixed results with POR15 rust preventative paint, very important to properly prep and for the metal to be clean and dry. High humidity plays a role, not always a good one.

Not familiar with that paint...will have to look at it.

Good luck on the continuing build...enjoying watching it come along. Lots of sweat equity being invested in this bike.

This bike has the VB version of the Kiehin CV carbs? I have the VB26Bs on my CX500
